Before he was "cooked" what was lindgren like as a player?

This reminds me of the Lars Eller trade but with more upside. Everyone was saying Eller was cooked but he was okay. Played good iml and got himself a good contract in UFA and Washington still wanted him back two years later.

Kevin Klein, but not quite as good a skater.

#4 stay-at-home.

He MAY be declining, or it may just have been a bad last 2 seasons. NYR fans, myself included, didn't want to gamble on an extension for him. Doesn't mean he can't be helpful as a rental. Just means I wouldn't want to give the guy a 4x4 deal.

He was a reliable defensive defenseman. One of the best in the league at that specific role. He even had good analytics.

Not anymore, but good luck to him with his new team.

I had a classmate named Anya who said it was pronounced aw - knee - ya.

Anything can have extra syllables if you try hard enough.

Defensively, is he just a shot blocker type or devon toews type? Avs could really use a good shot blocker, who is coachable.

It's hard to say how Lindgren will fit with the Avalanche. He's had to know all season long that he was probably getting moved. That can weigh on a player particularly one who has never moved as a pro before.

You sometimes find that when a player moves to a contending team....they find a role they fit into and do very well. It helps with players finding roles that a team has structure and that fell apart for the Rangers this year. In a lot of ways I liked Lindgren but I didn't like him as a partner for Fox....and the way he plays he's always banged up.

As far as Vesey he's a pretty good depth forward.....can play up and down the lineup a bit. Team's going to the playoffs can't have enough depth.

There really doesn't seem to be a winner, let alone a big winner.

A second rounder for Lindgren is a big winner, lol. This is probably a better return than what we got for Georgiev from the Avs which I believe was a 3rd rounder. Then we also got a 4th and a potentially useful C. There's no way there's no winner. Lindgren sucks and got us a 2nd rounder. In what world is that not a big win? Because it's the Rangers and no one wants to give them credit for anything?

Now, just a shot blocker.

He never put up points, but when he was good I found him legit good at breakouts and skating and actual qualitative defense.

The only thing that looks lost to me is the qualitative defense. I don’t see any of the micro areas gone, but he’s started to be at fault for a lot of goals he wouldn’t be in past years.

Lindgren should do much better in COL playing behind Toews and Girard. In NY, he was overextended as a 1LD playing the toughest matchups. He will hit and block a lot of shots. Occasionally pulls a nice pass out of his butt. I think I read he's having a career year in points but his decreased mobility can be a drag sometimes.

How about net clearing (is that considered a micro area). Avs has really missed things like shot blocking, net clearing etc. This could be like a younger JMFJ,who was decent in the cup year.

Lindgren should bounce back on an actual hockey team. Doubt he just forgot how to play at 27

Yeah, poor guy had the burden of playing with Adam Fox. Last year he sucked too on a team that had the best record in the NHL and went to the ECF. What a ridiculous post. People act like the Rangers are the going on a decade of missing the playoffs or something. But all of the haters were waiting for the Rangers to be a bubble team to talk about how awful they are. What was Lindgren's excuse last year or were they not an "actual hockey team" last year?

What was your team's excuse for playing him 20 mins a game in the playoffs and then give him another 4.5M?

Clearing the net has always been something he did very well, but he’s not that big, so some people think with his body breaking down that his lack of prototypical big defenseman size (he has closer to average defenseman size) is starting to show.

What I’m saying with micro areas is I don’t feel like any of the tools of a defensive defenseman have disappeared. There’s no “well, he’s lost his X or Y (skating, passing, physicality, etc.)” that would easily explain why he’s gotten worse. He’s just playing bad defense. A lot of it. I don’t feel like it goes beyond that and if he starts doing the defensive things you’d want (tying up sticks, being well positioned, making good reads, etc) again then I feel his reputation could return.

Maybe it’s a confidence thing due to all the injuries and he needs a prolonged spell where he stays on the ice and can build up some momentum instead of periodically missing time due to injury and having to then start from scratch.

Dumb coaching and dumb management? Drury gave him one year at a middling AAV and then traded him before the year was up. So clearly Drury didn't think too highly of him. I'm not sure what your point is. He sucks. The Rangers started the season very well with Fox and Miller and Lidgren injuried. The Lindgren came back and our dinosaur coach just couldn't not play the WARRIOR because coaches throughout the league love guys that try hard even if they suck. And the team fell off the face of the earth the second Lindgren was put on the first pair. It was partially coincidence because I don't think any one player has that kind of impact on a team but it was mostly just a dumb coaching decision. So I don't know what you're trying to get at? Pretending he was good? He wasn't. This isn't some hindsight post. He has literally been one of the top two whipping boys on HFNYR between him and Mika. Mika now improved and he's the #1 whipping boy. It's not hindsight, it's reality. Maybe in a 3rd pair role he could be ok. But I mean thanks for the second rounder for an OK third pairing defenseman I guess.

A new system and lesser responsibilities (and narrow scope) could also help. Just wish he was right handed.

Good thing hes going to a team with competent coaching and management then.

You're kidding, right? Was the trade of Trouba here criticized as the Rangers losing? Was JT Miller for Filip Chytil considered a Rangers loss?

It's a big win because the Rangers got a pick in the 50's, which traditionally has a 5% chance of becoming an NHL player? <Cue the "but it can be used as a sweetener in another trade" responses>

It sounds like it should be a social media post.

"LIndgren traded for a 2nd...THIS IS HUGE".
