Seravalli: Broberg/agent requesting a trade (mod: title updated, Oilers didn’t give permission to Broberg to seek a trade)

My expectation is that Broberg becomes serviceable *eventually*

Fluid skater with size - the question is what team wants to spend the next few years developing their future # 4 / 5 dman?

Edmonton and Montreal need to fire every scout that they employ :help:
Caufield, Guhle, Hutson, Engstrom, Trudeau, Roy, Farrell, Harvey-Pinard, Struble, Romanov, Harris, Primeau (and to a lesser degree: Ylonen, Norlinder, Beck and maybe Pitlick/Tuch)..

and that's just the last 5-6 years. Why would they fire their scouts? I'm not even adding those from the last draft that are already looking good (Fowler, Konyushkov).

I don't see how you can make any argument to compare Montreal and Edmonton scouting for the last couple of years.

Broberg in the SHL looked like a completely brainless hockey player, maybe one of the worst I've seen with such a high draft pedigree. Not surprised things haven't worked out.
Yes. This is where it first looked like a WTF. I recall at the time his boosters suggesting he was a boy in a man’s league and was learning/developing. After 2 years there though, he was no better and it showed when he came to North America.

They've done well with later firsts and mid round picks but they've arguably made the wrong decision every time in the past decade they've had a top 5 pick (and I kinda give them a pass on 2022 because it was the crap shoot draft of all crap shoot drafts)

Powers is not better than Broberg

It's the most valuable thing in there.

I'm assuming Broberg needs waivers ?
He doesn't, no.

He's unquestionably NHL ready though. He has 29 points in 42 career AHL games and he's not really offensively inclined. A team trading for him should be doing so to play him in the NHL. Either a bad team that can play him top 4 and see what happens or a good team with a gap at 3LD.

So, you're disagreeing with a pick from a few months ago, and the 2018 one who is playing well these days?

The fact that Oiler fans are calling Broberg a bust with barely 100 NHL games in his arsenal and Desharnais an NHL starter is absolutely mind boggling.

The stupidity runs so deep in this organization. I bet if this team put Broberg with Ekholm for a full season, he becomes the Oilers second best defensive defenseman.

The tools are all there. The AHL production is there. Get real people.

Then he's got value.

I imagine a team getting him sends him down for some confidence building. He's in that spot where he's probably top good for the A, but not enough for the NHL.

I'd take him on the Habs, but they need 2 weeks, maybe 3 for enough defenseman to get hurt. Hopefully he's not 1 of the 3

Yes, I'm disagreeing with both of their against the consensus picks considering the consensus players taken after them thus far look like they would have undeniably been the right selection. Top 5 is generally where you're going to find superstar talent and that's the biggest missing piece in Montreal's organization

If you want to buy in that Kotkaniemi was the right selection over Tkachuk and Hughes then I have some very interesting business proposals I'd love to discuss with you

I don't think Montreal needs another young #5-6 LHD...

However, if somehow Hughes was able to acquire Broberg, Montreal could possibly ice at some point (when they stop being injured all the time) no less than 8 players picked in the 2019 draft!!!

Gotta catch'em all

Dach (#3)
Broberg (#8)
Caufield (#15)
Newhook (#16)
Struble (#46)
Norlinder (#64, unlikely but still he saw NHL games)
Legare (#74, not impossible but unlikely)
RHP (#201)

Just for that I think I'd trade LHD Harris for Broberg because he is 2018 draftee.

the local media guys are saying Edmonton wants a forward in return.

The crazy thing is that the Broberg/Bouchard pairing was doing really well last year together (before the Ekholm trade). Yes they were getting sheltered minutes, but it showed that Broberg could handle NHL minutes.

I stole this from a Reddit post:

"Broberg and Bouchard (while playing sheltered minutes) are otherworldly since getting paired together. Last 10 games 66 CF%, 77 GF%, 73 xGF%, 80 HDCF% together"

Once the Ekholm for Barrie trade went down, it pushed Broberg down to 4LD and when he has played this year, it's either part of an 11/7 or on his off side.
