Seravalli: Broberg/agent requesting a trade (mod: title updated, Oilers didn’t give permission to Broberg to seek a trade)

Didn’t realize things were this bad. Imo Broberg needs to shut his trap, go to the minors (if his club thinks he needs that) and do all that his coaches are telling him to be a better player. He’s sounding like an entitled whiner. And the club is actually winning right now!
Can you really blame anyone for wanting to get out of Edmonton with their track record? They haven't managed to hold onto a single legit NHLer from the 1st round since McDiver.

Maybe Oilers fans have seen him more and can clarify but each time I’ve seen him he’s been underwhelming. Got beat one on one frequently, was outmuscled, and made terrible decisions with the puck when facing pressure and forecheck. Seemed ok with time and space.
Bingo. You don't notice him too often, except when he's making mistakes. Kind of a nothing player out there, but definitely lots of potential. I actually want to keep him because I think he does have a high ceiling but it is what it is.

Yeah, realistically you did “okay” if a pick in the 20’s or later turns into “just a 3rd liner”, or a guy in the ~5-20 range becomes a 2nd liner or 2nd pair guy. Most 1st rounders aren’t going to be 1st liners or 1D. I suppose it’s hope that keeps expectations up
It doesn't help that to describe a player's style, there are often comparisons to high-end players, who are most likely to have been noticed by a lot of fans, but it leads to over-valuation. (I remember Mike Ribeiro being compared to Wayne Gretzky. It wasn't the worst stylistic comparison, he was just the B or really C version of a playmaking center with good vision)

How do you lose that much value on a guy who was so recently a bluechip prospect and that kind of pro frame? Has he been Juolevi bad?

I don’t think he’s ever been considered a “blue chip” prospect

Yeh that’s exactly what it sounds like. Entitlement.

Don’t know why Broberg and his agent are like this, but it’s not exclusive to them these days. Marty Walsh does this shit all the time for his agents. Markus Lehto same thing.

Broberg would get plenty of ice time if he showed he could handle it, simple at that. Oilers would bend over backwards falling over their feet to make him work as a prospect, the only thing hold him back is himself.

Like when he was drafted 8th and compared to guys like Hanifin, Carlson, obligatory Hedman whispers?

Not saying those projections were on track, but there was something there.

Yep. I’ve recently come to believe there is a lot of luck involved. Obviously scouting and development play a hand, but I think the draft is a crapshoot of sorts outside the top few picks usually

Yup. Maybe the Oil can get Boquist out of CBJ for him?

At least at the price he was demanding. Easy to say you can't find a buyer when the price you are asking is too high. I find it hard to believe that with 31 teams not a single team wanted a $836,000 Broberg. I'm more likely to believe it was a lack of effort and inflexibility on Holland's part. But then who am I to judge. Holland has probably been spending every waking minute looking for that savior goalie.
Well i have a deal for him. Allen straight up.:sarcasm:

Not true. There is clearly something brewing, autorization to talk to other teams or not. He wants out.
He wants ice time. It’s no secret that he’s in limbo warming the bench in the NHL and not playing minutes in the AHL. This happens all the time with young players; it’s hardly a trade rumor.

this pick, and every other first round pick since, should have been traded to upgrade the team... if not at the draft, then as soon as possible after the players were drafted in order to acquire actual nhl players.

the fact that last year's pick was traded for ekholm is a perfect example of why - he immediately made the team better. now all of these prospects have lost their value.

Lol, good one.
Well later picks mean squat to us because they don't tend to help the team for years if ever or you get midling players for them. Broberg may not be a surefire star, but he has enough tools and has time on his side to be a worthwhile player for a team that can offer him time. Look at Michael Kesselring in Arizona for instance.
