I don't want to use Bailey here but I will... Because as much grief as the kid took, he looked to have finally found his niche and looked like one of our best forwards. After years of being the whipping boy, you actually see fans to a degree lamenting his pending absense.

Reinhart is a 20 year old PROSPECT, whom is in an organization that cand finally afford to take their time. I mean, say it takes three years for it to really click for Reinhart, but when it does the kid is a top tier pairing, shutting down opponents top forwars, etc... By then, you have a 23 year old, top defender. I stress 23 years old... All the while the islanders might not even need to really use the kid.

That being said, I am sure we haven't seen the last of Reinhart this season. I am even more positive that this time next year some will be beating down the door to find a spot for Reinhart on the roster. When Reinhart was drafted, I wasn't enthused all too much. However, I did have the feeling that Reinhart would be the true shut down defender we had lacked in the organization beyond hammer.

Thing with that is, it's not always the most flashy no attention grabbing style. Thus, Reinhart truly has to be shut down without having an offensive element like say pulock.

Funny. I think we all had this conversation about DeHann.

I can't stand Reinhart as a player and was hoping Galchenyuk fell to us somehow or we traded up to get him.
The problem I had then was his lack of physical and gritty play for such a big guy. I know we were hoping for the next Boychuk but right now he's another Schenn.
Yes he is young and can skate decent but he doesn't have the offensive prowess of his dad
And in my opinion was overrated from the day he was drafted.
In fact his brothers aren't lighting it up either. I would have dealt him for Leddy before trading Pokka.
Pokka reminds me of Kenny Jonsson and is on the fast track.

1) very glad you are not the gm

2) Kenny Jonsson was about as good a skating defence man that you are going to find. His skating ability paired with his ability to read plays allowed him to be a shut down defencemen despite being rather soft physically. Ville pokka skating is about as far away from Kenny Jonson as you can get. Pokka made great reads in sm liga and in international tournaments and his skating (below average) didn't get him into too much trouble because of the speed of the game at that level (or lack there of). When I saw him over here in the per season he looked like a kid that needed a lot of work in a bunch of areas (skating, positioning (adjusting to rink size has huge impact) and adjusting to the speed of the play at the NHL level (his reads took a major hit, game was happening too fast for him and he couldn't recover with below avg speed).

If you ask me, those ARE correctable and polka certainly CAN*overcome those, BUT for a guy whose calling card is positioning and anticipation (IQ) then for him to come overseas and have them be glaring weakness.... that's a major red flag. I think the isles saw this, got scared that one of their high level assets was going to take a major hit value wise at the very least in the short term and were eager to use him as a trading chip.

He is no longer on the fast track IMO. In fact he looks more like a project at this point. Of course, I liked him prior to this season but felt his game was getting significantly overrated particularly on these boards.

Everyone is over reacting just like the opposite last season when everyone was claiming he should have been on the Islanders roster. He's only 20 and he needs to learn how to step up his game to the faster pace of the AHL before he can graduate to the NHL. The preseason games that I watched him, everyone was raving about his patience with the puck but what I saw wasn't patience it was slow reactions and indecision. He has all the skills to be a top shutdown D-man but he needs time.

I loved Galchenyuk in that draft. Though I have a feeling if he dropped, the Isles still would have taken Reinhart, they were gonna take 7 dmen no matter what in that draft.

:skeptic:

No they weren't. It's all but confirmed that Snow would have drafted Collberg had Montreal not drafted him the pick before.

It's a nice story by Snow to calm down all the angry Islander's fans after the Vanek trade. Not sure if I believe it or not.

Snow never said they would've drafted Collberg. He said he was high up their list, but we'll never know who was ahead.

No... we will never know for sure but it's fun to speculate. Could be that it turns out, The Islanders ended up trading up one spot to select Collberg over Pokka. If so, Here's the Trade Break Down.....

To Islanders:
2012 2nd rd pick 33rd overall (Sebastian Collberg)
2014 1st rd pick 28th overall (Josh Ho-Sang)
Nick Leddy
Kent Simpson

Traded to (Buff/Mtl/Chicago):
2012 2nd rd pick 34th Overall (Ville Pokka)
2014 2nd rd pick 35th Overall (Dominek Masin)
2015 1st rd pick (TBD)
2015 2nd rd pick (TBD)
Matt Moulson
Anders Nilsson
TJ Brennan

Gotta think the Sound Tigers are gonna send a defenseman down to Stockton soon.

So you dislike Reinhart for not being physical or gritty enough, but you like Pokka who is less physical and less gritty?

Nemec got loaned out earlier in the week (or last week). I think they will keep 8 in Bridgeport.... injuries and illness happen often.

Might just be for a few games to get Pedan some playing time, but I think they might send him down.

Correct.

Pedan to Stockton for the weekend. Forwards banged up: Zolnierczyk left practice early; Halmo, Collberg apparently as well #BST

Wow, Pedan has really regressed. Had high hopes for him, but he's going backwards. Seems like everything the Isles get turns to ****.

I wouldn't say he regressed, they're just sending him down for the weekend. He'll be back up on Sunday. He's a project, need to be patient with him.

Pulock with a bomb from the point.

He's play well apparently, 2 goals 3 assists in 8 games, and he's a +3. Supposedly he was close to making the Islanders, but he got hurt and the Islanders traded for Boychuck and Leddy. If he has another good camp, I think he makes the team next year, should get a couple of games this year too.

Saw Pulock in preseason and he looked a lot better then Reinhardt that's for sure. Kid has a cannon of a slapper just like Boychuck.

4-1 win over Albany (in Albany), who were previously undefeated. our boys are now 5-2-0-1.

Poulin 1st star. saved 26 of 27.

:handclap:

Poulin looked good tonight. Albany had the #1 offense coming into tonight (lord knows how). Only goal he gave up was on a 5 on 3.... end of a long kill shift for reinhart and mayfield. A goal he shouldn't of given up, but still.... he shut the door after that.

didn't see the entire game, so i'm going to ask you guys. does it seem like Reinhart and Pulock are improving? from what i saw, Pulock looked better.

also think that Thompson might have a better system going than Cappy does. they definitely have a better GAA. obviously, comparing the two teams is like comparing apples to oranges.

Graham gets a rest, which i thought was weird. he seemed to be playing well. maybe nursing an injury?

thought our guys played very disciplined. Rats were playing dirty, and our guys kept their cool.
