This is definatly about money or something much deeper. Any half witted hockey fan can see there was an actual plan in place for the team, which is not solely Brian Burkes plan but is the entire management systems plan. Burke is close friends with almost every person in the management system which has been stated numerously.

So all of a sudden, at the beginning of the season, at the absolute most none sensible time to make a change they do? This is all too fishy. Burke either wanted to step down and thus rather be 'fired' to avoid speculation, or somehow the coporate dummies feel theres some monetary gain behind doing this in the short term.

Perhaps the Leafs being a joke amongst the league and fans is what the NHL owners want. Always have to question incentives.

was the talk of Luongo working out with Allaire a joke?

if not i wonder if that was fortelling as well

Ditto. Chicago fan these days.

But new GM, new ownership, possibly new coach? New roster? I'm excited to get back into the Leafs (instead of rooting against them)

Well then your just not a fan if you root against them.

The team, Brand and fans never change even if they don't agree with the management you can't be fickle like that.

The more I think about it, the less sense this move makes. I mean, just recently, Burke fired Wilson and hired his guy... that he wanted. He influenced the draft (no, I don't have a problem with drafting Reilly but I am just saying... a different GM may have taken someone else), he traded Schenn to bring a guy he wanted. I realize Nonis has had some infleuence on these moves as well but who knows, he could come in and not like the roster at all and just blow it up.

It seems like the decision was made just today but I don't get it. Maybe they had a major disagreement on some stuff or whatever but I can't imagine Burke plan changing now. I am sure its the same plan he told the owners earlier this summer or last off-season and etc... If they did have major disagreements, I am sure it would have occurred than just today or yesterday... so why now? Why not earlier in the summer where the new GM can come in and make the moves he wants.

Man, Leafs are a mess, from ownership to the team.

I love this Lupul interview...finally a hockey player who's actually articulate and doesn't throw around "You know.." every other phrase.

Darcy Tucker was funny to listen to and uh.. he would always pause between sentences and uh.. would take deep breaths between and uh.. when he'd talk bout his team he would make sure to get in a few and uhs..

WOW.. NONIS in on a FULL TIME BASIS... THE ORG JUST DID NOT LIKE BURKE'S STYLE

Biggest leaf news since jvr/schenn and I'm stuck listening to Hayes

Oh wow.. NOW I SEE IT!! Why couldn't you all notice all this time?

It's NHL's latest PR move! Last lockout they had Crosby and OV. This time around, its Nonis!

And this is a sure-shot way of getting people's attention.

j/k

I don't think the man had a plan, or if he did he didn't make moves that supported it. He arrived preaching truculence and testosterone and didn't deliver anything close. He said he wanted to play a tough style built from the net out and stuck with a coach in Wilson who played a run and gun style with defence an afterthought. He said they were going to get bigger and then suddenly scratched his head and said we're too small down the middle. He talked clear and tough, but his moves never supported his words.

i'm appalled to be a leafs fan at the moment.

he made some mistakes along the way (kessel deal, ufa signings )... but the man had a plan, at least give him the shorten season.

F YOU TML Management.

DREGS IS SO ****** HAPPY RIGHT NOW!!!! MUCH QUICKER INsIDE INFORMATION! LMAOO

Can someone do a summary of this? onsite today.

Did this news make the Fan 590 self destruct? It's all static for me.

James Duthie just reported that new ownership "didn't like Burke's style." And that's a good reason to relieve him of his job... Ugh.

He's not all that "stylish", and his hairdo needs an update, but other than that I can't see how this should have cost him his job.

Firing Burke is the first smart move the Leafs made in what.... 10 pr 20 years?

Damn.. has it really been 20 years since the run Gilmore and the boys made?

Oh well... I've switched colors since then and am cheering for the B's... but it's still fun to keep an eye on the circus that is the Leafs.

Ditto. Chicago fan these days.

But new GM, new ownership, possibly new coach? New roster? I'm excited to get back into the Leafs (instead of rooting against them)

Oh good, then I can stop wasting my time reading both your posts. Go back there then.
