This is definatly about money or something much deeper. Any half witted hockey fan can see there was an actual plan in place for the team, which is not solely Brian Burkes plan but is the entire management systems plan. Burke is close friends with almost every person in the management system which has been stated numerously.
So all of a sudden, at the beginning of the season, at the absolute most none sensible time to make a change they do? This is all too fishy. Burke either wanted to step down and thus rather be 'fired' to avoid speculation, or somehow the coporate dummies feel theres some monetary gain behind doing this in the short term.
Perhaps the Leafs being a joke amongst the league and fans is what the NHL owners want. Always have to question incentives.
