The only way this makes sense is ownership has a better GM in place with signing of new CBA.

This is the only rational reason for firing Burke now.

The lockout bought new Ownership much needed time to get adjusted in place, and also evaluate the situation they inherited and move forward from there.

Way too much over reacting here... Really, do you cheer for the Brian Burke's, or the Toronto Maple Leafs? I cheer for the Leafs. I don't know at this point in time what the future direction is, but I hope we hear very soon. I want the Leafs to be successful, but not at all costs... but we do need to move forward. Nonis is a quality guy, and if it's him, I'm fine with that. The only thing odd is the timing... or is it? We'll know.

He is the GM of a team, that hasn't made the playoffs in what.. 8-9 years, and has barely done anything to improve the problems last years team had. It is what it is... let's wait to hear what is said.

a) it's not a stretch to be puzzled how an old, fat guy could knock up a good looking news anchor.

b) the org. is much worse now than when he came in. The farm isn't better, the roster isn't better. The numbers speak for themselves, his regime was much less effective than JFJ's. I shouldn't have to argue objective facts. I get it, you're a blinded Burke fan.

c) Phaneuf is grossly overpaid and not good. I've never, ever heard someone say something good about Dion during his tenure here. He's mediocre and poor defensively.

Can't help but wonder if this happened because he refused to go after Luongo... I imagine new ownership wants to start things on a winning note and was putting some pressure on him to make it happen, but if Vancouver's price was as ridiculous as rumored, I agree that he balked at it.

Guess Nonis will be named interim GM, makes sense since he's done the job before.

Lupul said something similar when Wilson got fired. Said that the coach, and now GM are under fire but the players are taking responsibility for not getting the job done. Hopefully they respond with some fire in their belly and a 'whatever it takes' attitude to get the wins.
