Dave Nonis is the next GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Unclear whether that is interim or unconditional appointment.

It better be for like one year while we look for somebody better.

All this news thrills me. Mike Brown didn't look surprised at all or like he cared that Burke was gone. Burke did the best he could with what he had, and he had nothing. A near decade of utter misery is why Leaf Nation will get a new chance at change.

And in a year, we'll see a new GM unless Nonis does something amazing.

He's a mediocre top pairing defenseman. Hardly sucks. Context is important and you clearly lack it

Grabovski was and is the best center on both those teams I don't know why he isn't our 1st line center at least for now until we could acquire a #1C

Make Eakins coach. He's brilliant with young players. I like how he preaches fitness and actually follows through with it.

You're preparing to crown him as the Murray of the Leafs?

The Burke love will eventually die down and people will begin trashing him every chance they get if the Leafs don't make the playoffs this year. Soon we'll be defending the new GM to the death and make statements like, "well he started with nothing after Burkes idiocy."

If it's anything like the change in heart after Schenn was traded, this will take about 2 weeks.

Try a 8 years of losing hockey, ownership with a reputation for interfering in hockey related matters, its an utter disaster.

I can't wait for all the Burke haters to eat crow when they realize the new guy wasn't brought in to do the opposite of Burke... but purely for MLSE's bidding.

Yet none of those reasons stopped Burke from signing failed free agents like Komisarek, Armstrong, Lebda etc....

Brian Burke had a terrible record with us when it comes to free agents. It's a fact and HE should bare responsibility for it. It has nothing to do with the reasons you listed.

Grabovski wasn't the same player in 2008 as he is now.

prospects aren't any better. it's easy to bash those busts now but at the time they were ranked just as well as our current crop.

the D was better on paper and yeah, our top 2 forward lines look better now (well, just kessel), but goaltending is a wash and the on ice results are worse.
