Duh lol. Its so obvious. He flew out on the sunday.
What’s new, he lacks integrity.
Glad to have a new leader and direction under Treliving.

Paying the core 4 the bulk of the team cap is detrimental to team cohesiveness. The other players who do all the leg work, go into corners, dig pucks out and grind the boards will say "Hey are we chopped liver?"Scoring leaders 2022-23

Nate MacKinnon is coming off a Cup and 42 goals 111 point (5th overall) his new deal kicks in 8 years at $12.6 mil so Matthews wants a 3-5 year deal $13-14 mil. So pay the man the Cap is going up to 92 mil. ..
Mikko Rantanen his teammate also has a Cup and coming off a 55 goal 105 point season (8th OA) makes $9.5 mil AAV, Marner already makes $10.9 ml (+$1.4 mil more) coming off his best 30 goal 99 point season, So where does Marner next contract end up at MacKinnon at 12.5? Pay him what he wants when comparables would be far less?.
Then Willy says "I had a career year of 40 goals and 87 points" I'm going to need the Mikko Rantanen deal of $9.5 mil. So pay him also to keep the gang together?
So the Cap rising to $92 mil makes each Leafs contract less impactful but compared to other Cup Competitive teams like the Avs for example who outscore the Leafs players and with each overpaid contract that Cup Competitiveness gap increases for Leafs opposition as the spend themselves back into Cap Hell again for a 2nd time round.
New GM so its going to be interesting where this all ends up, and how he handles this Leafs situation to try and real in Leafs contracts.
Where does it all end and a Leafs GM says enough is enough already and pay industry rates and not make league exceptions simply because they're Leafs?
Dubas is the leak, isn't it obviousMirtle: Get ready for a Maple Leafs-Penguins rivalry — on and off the ice
With Kyle Dubas in Pittsburgh and ready for battle in the Eastern Conference with his old team, a heated new rivalry has just been born.theathletic.com
There are battles happening behind the scenes here, too. Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment isn’t happy about the various leaks that have been coming out of the organization basically since the moment Dubas was let go, and they’re attempting to root out the sources of those comments and get them out of the front office.
(What’s happening at one of their other clubs, Toronto FC, isn’t helping from a PR perspective, either. MLSE has cleanups on multiple aisles right now.)
Part of what’s going to happen in the coming weeks is changes in personnel. Dubas began clearcutting almost immediately in Pittsburgh, moving out three Ron Hextall-era staffers, and Elliotte Friedman reported on Saturday on his podcast that Jason Spezza could soon resurface with the Penguins.
Other talk I’m hearing is that the Leafs will try to keep assistant GM Brandon Pridham, although they don’t have a vacant GM role to offer him and the Penguins now do, so theoretically that could be a factor.
Other teams believe Dubas will also attempt to bring over Leafs head scout Wes Clark and members of Toronto’s analytics department, although the complicating factor is many of them are under contract.
If the contracts of some of these staffers are structured in such a way that they can leave for a promotion, the Penguins may be able to make inroads that way.
One person potentially in line for a bigger role in Toronto could be Laurence Gilman, who was largely marginalized the past few years under Dubas (to the extent he’s not even listed on the team website despite being on staff).
Gilman has decades of assistant GM experience, including his time in Phoenix and Vancouver, and overlapped with Treliving in the Coyotes organization, back when the new Leafs GM was in charge of their AHL affiliate in San Antonio.
Some of the front office movement may have to be on hold given the way the NHL calendar is about to unfold. Day 1 of the draft in Nashville is a little more than three weeks away, and Shanahan has publicly mentioned Clark as central to the Leafs plans there.
The Leafs just held their scouting meetings at the Memorial Cup here in Kamloops, B.C., and by all accounts, it was very much business as usual up at their temporary headquarters at Sun Peaks Resort.
Among those in attendance were assistant GM Hayley Wickenheiser, assistant GM Darryl Metcalf (who oversees Toronto’s analytical work through the research and development department), director of player personnel Dave Morrison and long-time director of scouting Reid Mitchell.
If the core 3 are willing to negotiate fair deals like Morgan Rielly did recently, that would be a good start. If they plan on milking every last penny again, at least one of them will likely have to go.Paying the core 4 the bulk of the team cap is detrimental to team cohesiveness. They will feel unappreciated and I don't blame them.
Yes there has to be a tier system but not the Marianas Trench. This will undoubtedly cause a rift and divide. That's why so many leave as FA. JVR, Bozak, Hyman to name a few.

Wouldn't it be something if Matthews set the precedent to give Treliving a better chance at building a cup contending supporting cast?My money's on the latter. They don't show up in the playoffs, but who cares? l'd be stunned if one of them signed a reasonable contract.

I'm not betting on it either unfortunately.
when you have competent people, leave them alone, when something makes them unsure or second guessing themselves you give them guidance............
The Toronto tax is the only explanation.1. The McD at 14.5mil is never confirmed.
2. AM can ask for any amount, it doesn’t mean the Leafs and any other teams are willing to pay.
He is not even close to being the best in the league and the player who was close at being the best in the league signed for 12.75mil last summer where the cap was 82.5mil. Another scorer who is as good as him signed for 11.25mil a few months ago.
What makes AM think that he deserves to be the highest paid player in the league? A Hart trophy while playing with the 7th highest paid player in the league and played 7 playoffs game, or his two Rocket Trophies. Stamkos got 8.5mil and he had more success both team and personal than AM at a time where Toews, Kane and Kopitar all signed deals over 10mil.
I didn’t think he’d Be this good.He has been very good these playoffs.
That’s called micro managing and it isn’t effective……..
Is Mirtle going to cover the Pens from now on?
I dont think the Leafs really care at this point. If anything it'll be a one sided petty "rivalry" promoted by Dubas himself and his shills like Jonas and Mirtle.
A normal rebuild takes 3 to 5 years and considering the hole Dubas put them in, I consider them at year 1 or 2with limited tradable resources -Matthews, Marner, Nylander and Rielly - and no draft picks. It won't be up to the GM. Leafs management will want them signed at whatever they want. And around and around we go. Cash is king in Toronto. I am now convinced we are never going to see a Leafs SC win in our lifetime.
Hey, the owners are taking every penny of Seattle’s franchise fee.Yes, of course. It's always next summer that the cap goes up by leaps and bounds. Like they couldn't split the difference to generate a more interesting offseason for the league in a capped out landscape with zero interesting player movement or forgive the operational debt they're paying themselves back for. The imaginary 50/50 player owner split under the shadow of franchise valuations going through the roof... where the Ottawa Senators could actually sell for a billion dollars... Sure, Gary.
Vegas is a perfect example.Oh it'd be something alright. Wake me up when it happens.
l dunno... l'm willing to take a chance on "lesser" players if they're willing to put in the effort. From what l see, the core 4 works hard until the cheques stop. That's my impression anyway.
Vegas is a perfect example.
Switch Matthews and Eichel and guess which one is still playing?
They don’t have Marner, Nylander, Tavares, doesn’t matter. The sum of the parts, being able to play in the regular season and playoffs. Being able to skill or grind. Hit and be hit.
took him 8 tries to get into the show, so good on him.Yeah, but he is in the finals now.
Sure, getting to the finals or even into the playoffs is a team thing.took him 8 tries to get into the show, so good on him.
And might get another one...The biggest star who exited Toronto over the past 10 years was Phil Kessel. He went on to win multiple cups in Pittsburgh and put up career seasons there. Star power faded out.
It's been obvious since the Babcock leaks that there's a few reporters that have Dubas as their source.Dubas is the leak, isn't it obvious
That’s not what micro management is. Major decisions should be collaborative.
Playing outside their comfort zone is not in their DNA. Dubas changed the supporting cast around them 5 years in a row, added at the TDL and it has not worked. They are the problem. They are less than the sum of their parts in the playoffs. But Shanny wants to try again. INSANTY !!!Vegas is a perfect example.
