I've been watching you post stuff about Lou for years now. I wonder why you're still here though. Are you here to defend Dubas or to put Lou down one more time. Are you a Leafs fan still?
I'm not here to defend Dubas or put down Lou. I'm here to discuss the team I am a fan of - the Leafs, and all I care about is how they impacted my team. I'm not even the one who first brought up Lou, but I'm going to call it like it is when discussing which GM better set the table for the next GM, and evaluating the situations they had to navigate.
You think it’s reasonable to go from 30th in 2016 to have used the ELC’s productively by the time Lou left in 2018?
I don't think it's reasonable to blame somebody for wasting the ELCs when the ELCs were all either done or in their final year by the time that person took over.

Duboss. As they call him in Pittsburgh. Seems to have strong relationships with those serving under him or green horns hired under his watch. He absolutely takes care of his people. Which is an admirable trait for leadership.

Where things get complicated is when he has to coexist with other established hockey people. Doesn’t seem to end well for his adversaries. They all seem to be tarred and feathered for incompetent out of date thinking. Lou, Babs, Hunter. Shanny now.

Yep any time he gets push back he has an issue. I think in the long run this will be very beneficial for us I wonder how much contrary thought was actually in the building by the end.

Probably why they were all in mourning as well he hired based on fits with him rather then what was best for the org it kinda feels like

It's nice to say things like the defense and depth around the core four will get better but it means little when you have minimal cap space to work with (especially if Willy & Matthews get big raises).

Any valuable add is going to be pricey.

Another underrated wrinkle with Treliving is that he lived in Arizona for a long time as an assistant GM with the Coyotes. So he’s very familiar with Restaurants/Golf courses etc. It will likely help him build rapport with Matthews when he goes to visit him.

Was such a different vibe from Treliving to Dubas during their presser. Dubas went out of his way not to say Toronto or Leafs as much as he could "saying my previous post" where Trevling acknowledged his former employer (flames) and had good things to say about them while also praising Dubas. I was happy to see Shanny take the high road and go out of his way to say nice things about Kyle. One side of the equation was classy and professional while the other side was immature IMO.

Yeah Shanny really took the high road as he gave a play by play recounting of the Dubas negotiations in his earlier press conference...a stunt most neutrals viewed as extremely bizarre and not at all "classy and professional"

Apparently Treliving and Pridham had a very close relationship when Pridham was with the league and Treliving was GM of the Coyotes while the league owned them. Probably is a good thing if the goal is to keep Pridham around as AGM.

I wonder if Pridham and Shanahan were both at the league together?

As was the 2 weeks that Dubas spent leaking garbage in the press

Shanny had to do it to actually give some sort of way to actually get their side of the story out

But we arent talking about that, we are talking about yesterdays presser with the new gm, so....

All this probably led to Treliving being Shanny’s guy. I’m sure other interviews were done but unless they blew the doors off the interview it was always Treliving.

Was extremely happy to hear about our playstyle changing and that was the biggest negative for me about the Dubas tenure.

Not enough fast north-south play, too much curling back in the offensive zone, not enough chipping pucks past defenders and winning 2v1 footraces, not enough total chaos and bodies to the front of the net. Just a very predictable flow, lacking in both consistent physicality and versatility.

Whether it was a Dubas, Keefe or even Shanny design, I think it sounded better in principal then what would actually transpire on the ice against the best teams over 7 games.

Treliving actually had a strong team in Calgary last season that was letdown by a horrific season by Markstrom. They finished top 3 in both xGF% and Shot attempts %. which shows they were pretty strong 5v5.

- Loves Dubas but the Leafs losing him is not a backwards move
- Treliving is the most tested GM in the league, he was in a war in Calgary
- Maple Leafs most talented team in Atlantic division which is division of death
- Shanny and the Board want to win more than anyone

Appreciate the summary!
