Whats also real is 31 other teams had to deal with the same issues btw and none of the other 31 teams was absolutely STUPID in having 3 players making 10+ AAV on their team. NONE!

We can and we will ___________ (fill in the blanks answer: SUCK)
That's kind've dumb when we got unlucky because of the timing of our signings. A lot of other teams were able to sign their stars during a 5 year flat cap period. We were truly dealt the unluckiest hand.

Any good and efficient managemenet has foresight; the time when the contracts were signed half this board was up in arms (exclude dubas fan club); media was wondering wtf is this and there were GMs around the league who said it didn't make sense to them. This was even before the hindsight of pandemic.
People do that with every new big contract now, Horvat being the latest example.

whats dumb is defending those contracts at that time. Matthews' contract comparison was Eichel, McDavid and what not. And he got 5 year term at 11.6 that was the dumbest thing to do.

Aho's contract for 5 years in comparison to marner's contract for 6 years

Its baffling that people think it was "luck" and "timing" when in fact it was gross incompetence

I'm guesing he doesn't trade anyone from the core. Shanny probably demanded this during their interview.

More of "working around the fringes.with no cap space". Or, trade Nylander alone with minimal benefit.

Honestly, I hate to sound so negative, but this franchise and its fans deserve their fate if the stay the course. Dubas was a good deal maker but he was fleeced in the RFA negotiations. This new GM has to understand what is needed and not fall for the flash.

I’m ok with working around the fringes if we see dramatic changes there. Especially on defense. Hopefully Treliving gets rid of Brodie and Gio just like old times and acquires a couple of giants like Zadorov and Oleksiak.

A most encouraging remark by BT on the Kyper and Bourne show:

"... We got to look for ways to augment our team. That's not necessarily just air lifting people in. It's getting people to adjust how they play. Getting people to make sure we're getting inside. Making sure that our puck battles is in an area of highest priority. How do we check? We don't defend, we check. To me there's a difference. You're on your toes, you're aggressive.

We know what it's like in the regular season. I guy may finish his check -- you know -- you know -- You're in 82 games, you're back to back, you're in 3 in 4.... There are no fly-bys in the playoffs. There's no let-ups. And we got to make sure we have a roster that handle no matter what the game presents. "

Wait until BT sits down and watches our playoff games over the past couple of seasons. He's going to be shocked by the frequency of fly-bys and the team's deer in the highlights reaction to the rough stuff.
Music to my ears but: Is Keefe the coach for this kind of play?

Asking for a friend….

I don’t know the type of coach we need yet because I haven’t seen what Treliving is all about.
Do we focus more on defense, building from the net out? Do we adopt a heavier style to be able to play a different playoff game?
Even if the core stays, is the focus off them as individuals trying to outscore the problems? Will they be expected to change to some degree and buy into something new? All unknown so far.

BTW- I like Boston Pizza. Their pie is very average, but it's a great atmosphere to see a game or hang with friends.

I work near the Yonge and Gerrard location.

The top floor has a retractable roof / skylight

I enjoy the wings there too.

The funny thing is that if Dubas had the patience, the President job here would have been his within 1-2 years.

He wanted it now, and wasn't ready to wait, so I hope he finds whatever he's looking for elsewhere, and he takes his entitled cronies with him.

I find his character lacking and we deserve someone better, both at their job and in character.

He did the same with the GM job and the avs interview.

It's why he was rushed into the job with all the contracts coming up

He gets a meat shield for the followers of his cult to blame his bad moves on in this case at least

FSG isn't as loaded as people think

Part of the reason Liverpool is going downhill is that they don't spend as much as others on players and contracts

If he really was just an offensive only player I could somewhat understand the people who want him gone but he brings so much more than just offense that you can't justify trading him.

I think he wants to remain a Maple Leaf 100%
Matthews is the best 2-way player in hockey... and scored 60 just 2 seasons ago. Anyone thinking of trading him is clearly insane and needs to be committed.

Good interview, Bundy doesn't just believe in airmailing solutions in, the current players need to change how they play and elevate their compete level. No more coddling, no more bullshit, time to nut up.

I'm sensing a revitalized JT this season, tighter game will fit him better than the shinny pond hockey free for all Keefe allowed...........

Maybe he is and has been held back so to speak by Kyles vision...maybe not. He has had Dubas as his boss for so long it would be interesting to get his take on how a team should play.

There's no shot that Marner deserves more than Pastranak.
Yup, I'd let his ass walk if he wanted more than Pasta. Treliving seems like a tougher GM/negotiator than Dubas though, I think he'll get Marner at a fair price when the time comes. Marner grew up a Leafs fan, he wants to play here for this team, Treliving surely knows that as well.
