Knies says hi...

We've got Knies on the roster to show for 5 Dubas drafts. Got a few players with potential so the book is not closed on his drafting. Oh yeah, did you know he left us 3 picks for this year's draft. Can't wait to watch other teams picking all the top players.

Indeed. Although I believe he's thought he did it 3-4 times during his tenure with Nick Robertson, Rasmus Sandin, Nick Abruzzese and Matthew Knies all being hastily added to the NHL lineup.

I love Knies and I can't wait to see what he's going to become but to say right now he is for sure a top 6 forward is not accurate but maybe by the end of the season we are saying that.

Abruzzese had a nice pro year in the AHL and I thought came up looking okay in the call up stint. Robertson is glass and Sandin/Durzi can run a powerplay but wilt with any defensive responsibility.

Knies will stick. Dallas might be the only team willing to give up anything for Robbie until Robbie proves something.

8 years benefits Matthews and hurts us, how are you not understanding this? We do not want to be on the hook for 13 mil to a 35 year old center with injury issues, we’re much better off with a 4-6 year term at that money. If we don’t win in 4ish years we’re going to be in a rebuild anyway and will get much more in return selling a 30 year old Matthews than a 35 year old.

8 years or bust is quite literally the stupidest dealbreaker imaginable at this stage, it only makes sense on his 1st contract when those 8 years cover age 21-29 not 27-35.
Makes sense to me....

He's pretty much guaranteed a spot on LW, especially if Bunts walks.

He’s been through the same situation the leafs are in with the flames last year , Hopefully he learnt from his mistakes and thats what sold shanny. He’s done it , He’s failed. Maybe this is his shot at redemption and He will adapt from last time.
His trade History blows , But his draft history is impressive .

I’ll give him the opportunity come July 1st Matthees better be singed on traded.
Exactly....who better to navigate thtough this than someone who's done it recently....with 2 players. He has my vote. Am curious as to how he'll play it...

Welcome to the era of complete incompetence. We are here to qualify for the playoffs. If we can do that, that's enough for the money makers.
Get me a ticket to the dance should be the plan. I am 100% ok with that. Tweek at the deadline as you see fit.

Once you get to the playoffs an 8 seed can even make the cup final and the 1 seed could lose first round...ya never know.

Would anyone really fear this version of the Leafs vs Florida again or Vegas??

If you move JT to the wing you need a #2, #3, and #4C.

4C could be Acciari or Holmberg. Of the UFAs, Schenn and Acciari seem like the most likely to return.

A 2C and 3C would be tough to add, especially considering the UFA market is poor.

Nylander is one of my favorite players on the team (which isn't saying much TBH). But he played hardball as a 22 goal scorer, think of what that means from a 40 goal scorer. Good thing Dubas is gone or we would have found out...
Interesting how BT will handle him & his agent.

If there's one UFA I'd like to see return, it's Kampf. Schenn or somebody like Schenn is also essential.

Apparently Treliving has tried to acquire Schenn multiple times at deadlines etc, and now it seems like an easy task to just re-sign him and fits a mold he generally likes.

In terms of Kampf, I think he's going to get 2.5-3.5M range...he's gonna look at Lowry and think he's somewhere around there.

I hate the hiring but this is what I'm gathering from it:

I think core 4 will be shaken up this off-season. Shanny approves the deals but probably liked Brad because he's well connected and can go fish for deals from all over the NHL. This is big for Shanny because he needs someone like this. Brad's weakness was giving out contracts (giving long term deals to guys into late 30's) but I think Shanny wont approve any of that nonsense.

So now Shanny has his new puppet and will use Brad for where he is best - trying to find the best trade deals. From there, they will make a decision on the best one. I think this is where Shanny is going with this hire. Can't give Brad free reign because he's made a lot of mistakes. So if you can watch him and let him go scour the market for trades - that's where he's most valuable.
