Treliving can't possibly be any worse than Dubas.

It is so disappointing for me to see this franchise in the situation they are today.

Even moreso because detractors were saying this has been coming for a long time. I know I've been a broken record for years. Well I'm sorry for being negative, but I find it hard to be optimistic right now.

I just want to cheer for a contending hockey team.

Is that too much to ask for? To have a hometown team I can finally be proud of? A contending team like we were promised?

Because for most of my life this team has been a loser.

And still is.

Shanahan's days are numbered. He knows it. Everyone knows it.

Firing Dubas to hire Treliving is an admission they couldn't fix this mess themselves.

That's their only target, I don't think they ever plan to win a Stanley cup. They just don't have it in the ownership to the management to the coaches to the players. Every one of them are just a bunch of nuisance at best. One better than the other.
Why wouldn’t they plan to win?
If you stop and think you’ll realize you’re making no sense.

I highly doubt Treliving is going to be cool with keeping the same core, same coach and then when they win, all you'd hear is "That was pretty much just Kyle Dubas's team".

All GM's want to bring in their own person and put their stamp on a team.

I know this is what's being speculated or reported right now but there could be many reasons for it, one being to hold strong leverage in trade talk whereas if you tell everyone that you will definitely trade one of the core, your leverage weakens or not wanting to create too much chaos before needing to get Matthews signed.

Friedman has absolutely no idea what Treliving is thinking. He's been here less than 24 hours officially. Treliving doesn't even know what he wants to do yet probably.

Treliving isn't gonna come out and say he wants to move one of the core four anyways. That would be giving away leverage in such a scenario.
Leverage over whom?

@weems i saw you posted about leverage as well. I don’t expect them to announce they are moving a player but how would that be giving away leverage?

Leafs actually have 10 UFA's currently on the NHL roster and 1 RFA (Samsonov) without contracts for next year. However if you weren't including Holl as one because its applied he is gone then its only 9. :wg:

However those 10 - 11 roster spots would need filling by re-signing or replacing.

Leafs currently have only $9,143,550 in free cap space available.. With 11 positions and < $10 mil in free cap = $831k per player on average to replace. (League minimum salary 2023-24 = $775,000)

Getting Murray's $4.67 mil off the books via trade or buyout almost a must, and with a buyout saving $4 mil next year that could be used to re-sign Samsonov at and one problem solved.

New GM has little money to play with to reshape the roster.

The contract extensions for AM and WN with applied raises from current need to be budgetted for in 2024 when the kick in.

Probably one of the big reasons Dubas headed for the hills after painting himself into a corner.

I know stuff can change, but bringing the entire core 4 back will make it extremely difficult for me to stomach watching games.

I'm so over their failures at this point. They just don't have "it"
I’m with you. As far as I’m concerned I’m “over” all the excuses for this core

This guy has gotten as far as.... wait for it.... the second round.

So exactly the same round as the guy you think is the best GM in hockey?

You must think Treliving is a god then

The hard work is already done. We have our core forwards / core assets to build a contender foundation.

All he has to do is turn dubas' vanilla supporting cast into something respectable. It's not that serious.

Hard work was done by the time Dubas got here as well

Dude just took a gift and shit the bed. Treliving has some work to do because of the contracts but we'll see if he does the same or is actually competent

Is it just me or if extending the core 4 cripple u with about 35 million long term on 3 guys .
Almost 50 if u count tavaras

I think your in the Same boat .if these guys Wanna stay they can each shave a million off per anum
An underrated way this really cripples the team is in the event that the team hits big on some prospect or another. If the team develops its own Brayden Point or Kirill Kaprizov (the proverbial "good problem to have"), the cascading effects of paying this player fair market value along with a foursome of stars on no movement contracts would either lead the team to have to deal the new young star or go cheaper than ever in other areas of the team.

Dubas unfortunately hasn't drafted anything to help us in the top 6F department or top 4D department either.

Treliving spent 9 years building a team that missed the playoffs.

Cammalerri-Backlund- Hudler
Glenncross-Monahan-Stempniak
Byron-Stajan-jones
Bouma-colborne-galliardi

Giordano-brodie
Russel-wideman
Butler-smid

Ramo
Berra

It was calgary line up when he started with no future outside of gaudreau...just reach more than half time next 9 with worst team leafs had in 2006, its pretty amaizing

If there is anything more intellectually booorrriiinnngg than the knee jerk Dubist crowd here, fill me in. You guys are a cure for insomnia.
The death knells of that movement seem to be laughing emojis, lols, lmaos, lame attempts at derision, pleads to close threads.

If at first you do not succeed, try again, again, again, again, again, again, again, and again.

Dubas unfortunately hasn't drafted anything to help us in the top 6F department or top 4D department either.
We've got Knies on the roster to show for 5 Dubas drafts. Got a few players with potential so the book is not closed on his drafting. Oh yeah, did you know he left us 3 picks for this year's draft. Can't wait to watch other teams picking all the top players.

Indeed. Although he acted like he did it 3-4 times during his tenure with Nick Robertson, Rasmus Sandin, Nick Abruzzese and Matthew Knies all being hastily added to the NHL lineup.
