Yeah, so what’s your point, you actually believe it’s Shanahan who didn’t want to fire Keefe and not Dubas? Oh boy, that’s a good one………

I mean Dubas was the one talking about everything being on the table and the possibility of changes in his presser. Shanahan is the one calling the core 4 and telling them they're staying, asking GM candidates if Keefe can stay on. Seems like Shanny is the "run it back" guy is there is one.

Lou stopped being a 'good' GM his last few years with the Devils... after that, its reputation that keep him in employed as he signs bad contract after bad contract.
luckily for the Leafs, he's signing bad deals for the Isles now, and not Toronto.
So, let me get this straight, a washed up old decrepit Lou has way more playoof wins with the NY Islanders than boy wonder could muster with a perennial President Cup challenging Maple Leafs? Keep deluding yourself, you have left the planets orbit……..

This is exactly the reason why I didn't want Dubas fired in the first place, you replace a bad one with a better one instead of the same or even worse one. This team is going to be the clown fest starting on Friday.
Nice logic, he’s the same but it’s going to be a clown show.

I can see the lip service to the players, that’s damage control, he deferred the coaching decision to the next GM in his presser. If they’re running it back nothing changes imo………

I guess snow is the guy who built the 2019-2021 islander. You know…the one that went to the conference finals twice….

I guess snow employed a legit coach to get into the style of hockey they needed to succeed.

He got barzal at a fine deal. A nylander level player making 9. As for the leafs, gardiner, Rielly, kadri, Andersen were amazing signings. Hainsey, Hyman, Martin, brown, polak were ok. Zaitsev, Marleau were bad.

Hey may have put the islander in a tight spot now, but he was an excellent gm who made them a top 5 team for those 3 years with legit chances at the cup.

It’s challenging reading some of these takes on here, keeping doing the same thing and expect a different result hasn’t worked, won’t work, will never work. Trade some expensive assets and sprend the cap around to make a team not 4 stars surrounded by a bunch of plugs that will be replaced the next year by yet another bunch of plugs………

What a lucky break, the first name they were publicly linked to also magically happened to be the perfect candidate
It's always been the front office they leave to hang out to dry. The players they seem to protect and or get super pissed when a trades leaked etc. I take player romours way less serious.

Father is very upset. He said the Leafs will regress now and be a laughing stock like before. The only good news he said is that Shanahan will be fired when they realize he made a huge mistake letting Dubas walk.

Sutter might be a tough coach to play for in this day and age, but calling him a d bag is uncalled for, guy’s won cups, I know in Toronto that don’t mean shit, but to the rest of the world it’s a badge of honour. He’s probably happier working the farm and wondering how this world has become butter soft.……….
What’s soft is that someone needs to defend his honour after a random gobshite with a silly shark avatar called him a dbag on the internet. Being a dbag and being a cup winning coach are not mutually exclusive descriptors. Im literally blaming the player for his own performance in the post you quoted, but I’m sorry for offending your sensibilities.

Brad Treliving will leave “no stone unturned” as he attempts to take the Maple Leafs to another level as the team’s general manager.

That’s the view of a current Calgary Flames staff member, who wished to remain anonymous as he described to the Toronto Sun what the Leafs are getting in Treliving, who was hired on Wednesday as the 18th GM in franchise history.

“He’s a worker, he’s non-stop, he’s diligent,” the Flames staff member told the Toronto Sun on Wednesday. “A real dog on a bone. And if it gets to that point, he will grind agents down if he has to."

Based on how he worked in his nine years as GM of the Calgary Flames, perhaps we shouldn’t be expecting wholesale changes with Treliving in charge of the Leafs.

After Treliving was named GM of the Flames in April 2014, he didn’t clean house and he didn’t fire coach Bob Hartley. Keep in mind that when Treliving departed the team then known as the Phoenix Coyotes, he took over a Flames club that had not made the playoffs in five years. From the Coyotes, Treliving initially brought only pro scout Derek MacKinnon, who is now the Flames director of pro personnel.

It’s a different situation in Toronto, of course, as Treliving will take charge of a team that has amassed more than 100 points in four of the past six seasons, including the past two, but has won just one playoff round in 19 years.

“He wasn’t hasty that way in Calgary,” the Flames staff member said. “When he came in (from the Coyotes), he did his research on the staff and got to know people. If you don’t know what you have, because you don’t know these people, why let guys go?"

“Once he gains your trust, he lets you do your job. I know he was big on honesty with the media in Calgary, too, but that’s how he is with everybody.”

Despite what is expected to be an even-handed approach by Treliving, there could be some changes on the way.

 Treviling comes into a team whose worst contract to move is Matt Murray with a whopping 1 year left .. And Tavares' contract, if you want to nitpick, but even that just has 2 years left and a deal with retention is looking more feasible if needed.

Literally no longer-term handcuffs.

He has the ability to move 3 high-profile core players at the draft without restrictions, can re-sign two of those core players on July 1st as well.

There is a ton of flexibility here to reshape the roster .. while it's not as cushy has having elite talent on ELC's, it's an ideal re-tool scenario.

The biggest thing is the lack of draft picks available to sustain the prospect pool but the pool has some solid depth already which near-NHL ready contributors so it's not a glaring hole yet.
Great post.

Dubas wanting to change the core is hilarious. That's as fake as his glasses. I don't know much about this guy other than what I read on here, but hard to imagine he could be much of a downgrade on Dubas. Dubas inherited a lot and did nothing but run it into the ground.
