Go listen to Matthews interview on spitting chiclets. He basically said that he wanted the long term deal, it’s not that Treliving didn’t want to do it. It’s that if they did, they would not have the cap or budget to put a team around him based on the number Matthew wanted.

I'd really want to know the number Matthew Tkachuk placed on himself to sign in Calgary long term.

Maybe he still demands a trade anyway.

So he trusted the player and got burned.

If he didn't sign the bad Neal contract the year before, it wouldn't have been an issue.

People complain about 5/6 year deals for our players, and Tkachuk got 3 but people are excited, makes no sense.

That’s exactly what I took away from the situation. You have to think the number was astronomical on an 8 -year deal to stay in Calgary. I have to think he said I want the Matthews deal.

Yes and that’s the risk with bridging players. But IMO 9/10 bridging is the right play. Convince the player to take a little bit less to help put players around them. There’s always a chance they want out, but most of the time they’ll sign.

That’s why people saying Tkachuk is different makes me laugh. He still f***ed over Calgary and demanded out. IMO that’s a thousand times worse than what the Leafs guys did. Are we also forgetting Florida was so mediocre the entire year and got in cause Pittsburgh shit the bed. Good on Florida for making the most of the opportunity.

Well at some point we are goign to get Tavares-ed
We have a lot of expiring contracts. That's how she goes

This has happend to Niderymyer, Parise, Tavares, Chara

Or it could happened what transpiried with Barkov, Stamkos, Pstarnak
Bolded reminds me of trailer Park boys

My issue is the NMC that gives the player all the power before you can legally negotiate an extension on what were short contracts

Yes Stamkos and Barkov had them too
Tavares and pastarnak had a 10 team and 8 team no trade- they could have been traded
Chara/Neidermayer and Parise did not have no trades- the team had the trade option.

as to being Tavares-ed- I think Leafs got Tavares-ed when they signed him to a an 11M deal with a NMC- it set the stage for the others getting the same

15.5 actually, Robertson's IR is counting against the cap in their calculation.

So 15.5 against 5-8 open positions (not 11 @Mess) that's an average of 1.94 - 3.1 per vacancy.
Call it a 22 man roster (7 vacancies), 2 spares at 800k each = 13.9 /5 = 2.78 per
2x 4th liners at 1.5 each leaves 11.9/3 = 3.97 per
1x 2m 3rd liner @ 2m leaves 9.9 /2 = 2x 5m players
Is this with using off season ltir or ltir on firat day of season.. they are different

You have to be cap compliant day 1 to reap the biggest rewards of ltir.. it weakens available space using it in the offseason

Can remember the multipliers but this back and forth needs to identify when the ltir is being used

Yea this guy's not getting us over the hump
You never know. Penguins fans hated Rutherford's guts, called him the biggest idiot in management and wanted his head. He delivered B2B cups.

Maybe he could be a complete moron and only win 1 playoff round in the next 5 years while trading away every 1st while getting rid of guys like Marchment, McCann and Kadri for absolutely nothing.

Or maybe he can build a competent contending team around Matthews, I dunno.

Do you know the mayhem that would go on here if we missed the playoffs like that team did before winning together? Same thing as Vegas last year. Hindsight proves to keep the core and reset the depth.

I seem to recall everyone was injured on Tampa in 2017 so they had a real reason for face planting.

I actually don’t mind if we have a step back year as long as there’s certainty with the Matthews contract for medium to long term. Just let things settle down, contracts expire, regroup and do it again.

Lou’s resume speaks for itself. He had a lengthy career before Kyle and he’s had a pretty good one after Kyle.
Lou stopped being a 'good' GM his last few years with the Devils... after that, its reputation that keep him in employed as he signs bad contract after bad contract.
luckily for the Leafs, he's signing bad deals for the Isles now, and not Toronto.

I wonder how important it was for the Leafs to have Treliving in place before Dubas picked a destination. Breakup dynamics.

Arizona will like the Muzzin contract after July 1st because his signing bonus is paid out. Arizona definitely wouldn't like Murray, sorry if that wasn't clear enough in the original post.
While nobody wants Murray, including us, at his AAV he will end up playing goal for us as we can't afford to give up our 1st either this year or next .. then he will get hurt again and go on LTIR in season .. da issue becomes signing Sammy .. he will have to take another 1 year deal with us bottom line as we will be under CAP hell again next year .. no one will take Murray on waivers and then he goes down to play in minors where he likely gets hurt again .. then brought up when we get another injury and then to LTIR .. you can write da script already

Will never understand how a city not known for pizza at all is the name choice for a pizza place.
Canadian economy was still growing and having an international name such as Boston was a better selling point if you are starting a business in Alberta.

Similarly how a lot of South east Asian restaurants would use India in their name while being run by other countries origins like Pakistan, Bangladesh or SriLankan etc.

For the record, Boston Pizza sucks.

I never know what BP is supposed to be. One day it's a hockey bar, but they never play any sound
The food is astrocious so it's not a diner
Not really a drinking bar, they dont' know how to make anything

Only reason I go is because it's literally beside my home and I dont' have to worry about driving
I also have applebys by my place right beside my home too, but they close at 9pm...... Bro come on

Give him a break

Treliving has a clean slate in TOR. He can't be paying for mistakes from the past just hours after he starts with his new team.

So we can talk about his "experience" and how he made big trades but we can't talk about his flubs? That's dumb. He's taking over as GM. His past is absolutely relevant in regards to trying to figure out how he might manage this team going forward.
