Klingberg looked rough when he was healthy with the Leafs last fall, and hasn't had a good season since he was with Dallas several years ago. The guy is also probably ooked.

Maybe a one year, league minimum with no bonuses. Probably best for all involved to just go their separate ways though
It's tough to fit in a bottom pair PP specialist who needs sheltering

Yep. Not much PP time available too.

The team really needs puck moving guys who can eat up more serious minutes. Klingberg ain't it. The teams also got guys like Timmins, Lily and maybe even an appearance of a prospect on the Horizon.

Not a lot of sheltered spots available right now

Tre could have beaten the Bruins if he traded the assets Dubas traded last year to win his SC.
The pre-deadline 2023 team, even after losing Muzzin to an in-season injury, was objectively better than both the pre-deadline and post-deadline 2024 teams, and Treliving also benefitted from half the assets traded last year, as it gave him our best defenseman in our playoff series this year at a 2m cap hit.

Since some people are giving Tre a letter score, I will give him mine:
F-
Why?
Many reasons, but one simple one is he hasn't solved either of our perennial problems, a good goalie and a first pairing d-man.
Domi and Beruzzi? unnecessary additions that didn't move the needle.
Apart from Benoit, all the defensemen signings show a 1970's mentality to hockey, vastly outdated and stupid ( other than Klingberg, which I presume was influenced by dropping acid or smoking too much crack it was so stupid.)
Signing Matthews and Nylander good moves. As were some other minor signings.
Anyways, Tre sucks.
Last year was about tryouts and evaluations. This time last year, he didn’t know if needed a goalie or if Woll was going to be a number1. He still doesn’t really know, but it’s hard to trust an injury prone goalie.
Domi and Bertuzzi were fine last year but I wouldn’t go out of my way to re-sign either long term although Domi was their best forward in the playoffs but he can’t carry a team.
Until they find top end skill they’ll always remain in the 10-15 range

I was pretty happy with Treliving in year 1 especially considering he only came in just before the draft with all major decsions made his coach was decided, his core was decided.

Most of the things he did do worked out well like Bertuzzi, Domi, even Reaves after a slow start.

last summer he gets a pass.

This summer is where we can start to judge him, because now he's he's not coming in 5 weeks before the draft.

He got to choose his coach

He gets to make the decsion on Marner.

this is where we his legacy as Leafs GM will start to form.

This is where my opinion of him could change.

Right now it's very strong but if he trades Marner and he botches it my opinion of him will start to change

Tre gets a pass since the team only played 7 more games and no apparent changes in sight.
Holland gets an A bc his team is in the Finals would be A+if his team wins

Were we happy with Tre contract extensions? Did his trades and signing help us get better?

His reputation isn’t great hiring coaches or getting value in free agency.

We will see what this team looks like at the start of the season.

Hopefully he picks up a solid defencemen that can move the puck. Edmundson and the bear should never see top 4 minutes.

We have cap space and let’s see how he handles Marner even tho his hands are tied with NMC. Same clause was given to Mathew’s and Willy from my understanding from Tre.

We need to fix the back end….and a goalie even though I think Woll is the guy buy his injury history is a big concern.

Dubasites doing their predictable circle jerk of criticizing Treveling just because their idol is gone. Tre is not the best but let’s see how it goes with core demolition and new goalie.
and have the arrogance to imply nothing is on Dubas and his legacy of incompetence after blame Lou and company for YEARS of Dubas incompetence.............

Anyone else cringe reading the comparative results arguments.

The results remained status quo. Another 7 game series that we ended up losing.

If you really want to micro-analyze, you can say this season was better because game 7 versus the Bruins literally came down to the last bounce. We matched the tight checking of one of the best defensive teams in the league.

The past game 7s were a complete breakdown in the 2nd half of the game. Boston chips away until we finally TKO after the half way mark or beginning of 3rd. Total 180 change this year. Unfortunately caught sleeping in OT though

We are currently in an awkward phase where a lot of our past depth got too expensive, covid cap barely changed, leaked a good amount of assets, chose wrong on goalies, need to wait out JT's cap hit and perhaps chose wrong on a few of the guys we should have kept instead.

I'm on the optimistic end where I don't see why it will be a big issue to improve on last season. Treliving is still in a benefit of the doubt zone. This is the real first test imo. Lots on the agenda this off-season.

He has one major task: Trade Marner.

Anything else is lipstick on a pig.

I predict Leaf Nation fans overall are going to fairly disappointed by this upcoming season and not a lot Treliving can do about it.

The end result might be looking at a year where the core 4 all return and Leafs have 4 X Top 10 highest cap players all the same team, and now propped up to new heights with the pay increases of Auston and WIlly's new deals coming into effect.

Fan's and Leafs Management and Ownership will look at summer 2025 when you have Marner coming off the books, & you have Tavares contract set to expire - $21M in cap space right there just with them alone. That is the most probable outcome. IMO

Marner doesn't strike me as an overly mature individual willing to sit down and cooperate with MLSE and accept they would like to move on from him in TO. His agent Darren Farris is a known ahole around the league when it comes to player agents working with teams, and we all know the names of Paul and Bonnie Marner his parents, because they also are not shy to speak their mind publicly when it comes to Mitch and his contract situation. Couldn't think of a worse situation full of landmines for Treliving to navigate to force change against the wishes of everybody else involved.

Maybe Mitch will surprise and realize its in his best interest financially to work with BT on a sign and trade to a team of his choice, that wants him at his new contract rate and willing to part with assets to bring him in. But colour me skeptical that this is even a remote possibility, but if BT can pull this off then we might be looking at this as pulling off a miracle.

I'm far more likely going to expect Marner to go public and say he plans on playing out the year in Toronto, because his contract allows him to and he doesn't care what anybody else thinks nor wants because only his opinion on the subject matters.

Hopefully he does, and prevents Treliving from destroying this team further.

You missed the obvious that most of us figured out after the Montreal debacle.

The. Core. Fore. Are. Losers.

Time to start the change. Trade Marner.

I fully expect that while doing this Marner will remind Leaf fans once again that he is a "grown man"...

All hail Dubas for he is awesome and a genius and has 1 first round win to prove it.

It would be crazy to think Tre had his two stars in CGY push themselves out (JG, TKachuk) and he may not be able to move the 1 star in Toronto that so many want gone because he let the NMC kick in
