3 years @ 3-3.5 million for Clowe. Perfect contract.

That contract also costs you another 2nd rounder.

For a guy thats had all sorts of injuries over the last 18 months, including a concussion thats keeping him out of the playoffs.

"Perfect contract?" Im really wondering if you're serious with this.

I actually thought last night was Brad's best game of the series, though still far from what we consistently need from him. One thing I noticed is that he often manages to get himself into good position to make a play by finding a soft spot in coverage, but he's indecisive once he gets the puck and when pressured either turns it over or treats it like a live grenade. Last night on the PP at least he was decisive, firing away from the point before the defenders had a chance to adjust and creating a lot of havoc in front of Hotlby, which was awesome. Seems like he still knows where he needs to be on the ice to get scoring chances so I think if he keeps shooting and gets paired with a winger that crashes the net (like Zuccarello did when they went on their hot streak in April), he might be a more consistent threat out there.

Amnesty Richards. Don't re-sign Clowe. The cap is dropping from $70.2M to $64.3M. Some teams could be forced to trade players for money reasons. As long as the contract isn't more than a year or its a reasonable two year deal, look to add a player or two that way.

Why not play him on the wing, where he can simplify his game and let him take face-offs? He thrives blocking shots. That's a wingers job. Then if a center goes down, you have 5 C's on the roster. Makes more sense.

He can't distribute the puck at all.

Agreed. Boyle, to maximize his play, needs to be a winger. You have him playing as a winger but taking faceoffs. He did it a few shifts last night, too. Played the wing while taking faceoffs.

Agreed on both. Sharks fans were right about Clowe. Guy has been in the trenches now for too many years to risk money and term on him.

Where was it reported fact that he has a concussion? Speculation?

richards is far too slow these days. he's lost his legs. amnesty him this summer and replace him with lindberg or miller. use the extra money to re-sign our rfa's and extend hank.

if richards isn't producing, he's a waste of space. his defensive game and faceoff ability is too weak to be a third or fourth line center.

I like Boyle on the wing and I'm fine with him taking face-offs. He also tends to play his best in the playoffs. He was a monster last year against Ottawa until he got hurt. I think he's a player we should stick with for the time being--as a 4th line C with lots of pk or a 3rd-4th line W with lots of pk and taking face-offs. He's played well coming back from his injury. His big body is a lot to contend with and gets us back some leverage in the grinding and battling for pucks department.

Call it an educated hypothesis. What do you think is wrong with him?

Anyway, teams cant compete with cooked/washed up players on the roster. It certainly looks like both Richards and Clowe are spiraling towards that.

I have no idea. He had a shoulder injury earlier in the year.

Again, Clowe at a reasonable contract is worth it. He adds multiple dimensions to the team and can play in a top-6 role. He has never been a speedster. He controls the boards, works in front of the net and provides toughness while adding 40-50 points in a normal healthy season.

Richards looked gassed last night, huffing and puffing at the end of every shift even if he wasn't skating that much. His conditioning has really declined since last year.

It's unfortunate because out of all Sather's signings, I thought the Richards one was going to work. Although the term was way too long in order to lower the cap hit, Richards was always a smart player and I felt he could have some productive years here. He just doesn't look like the same player he was in Dallas or Tampa.

Doesn't really matter what the injury is at this point. Two injuries that sideline you more than a few games in one (short) season is not a good sign.

I didn't like the trade from the beginning, and unlike the Gaborik trade, I still do not. I also hope they do not re-sign Clowe.

At this point you might as well amnesty Richards, but I'm afraid what they'll do with that money. :help:

I Know this may be WAY out there but would it be THAT bad if the Rangers traded Richards back to the Stars and recouped some assets? I know if he retires they are hit with a cap hit number, but I don't get the feeling he will retire.

SHOOTING FOR THE STARS
Jim Nill has been Dallas Stars GM for just over a week, but there's plenty of interest over his potential moves this summer.

The Edmonton Journal's Jim Matheson believes one of Nill's biggest decisions is landing a first line center so Jamie Benn can be moved back to left wing.

Matheson suggests Nill make a bold move by shopping Loui Eriksson, noting the Stars already have a bevy of young wingers (Reilly Smith, Brett Ritchie, Matt Fraser and Matej Stransky) on their club or in their system.

Since 2008-09, the 27-year-old Eriksson has consistently ranked among the Stars leading scorers and would attract considerable interest in the trade market. Moving him for a first line center, however, would hurt their depth on right wing, leaving a fading Erik Cole and inexperienced kids to fill the void.

Nill is more likely to draw from his depth in young assets as part of a package for a first line center.

Benn had fantastic chemistry with Richards

They didn't have the money for him last time. Has anything changed now?

The Rangers have already paid 24 million of his total amount. That leaves 36 million over 7 years. A 5.14 million cap hit for those years.

I believe they have also solidified their ownership in that time. They couldn't give him the bonus money but the term and cap hit weren't so much the problem.

Just don't think trading Richards is in the cards. Way too much risk in that cap hit coming back and biting us in the ass. After this season's performance, I doubt the return would be that good anyway.

He was on pace for ~60 points. Teams may just think it is a blip on the radar (which is actually possible)
