Our only hope of trading Richards is if Bob Gainey gets a job somewhere. Not other GM would be stupid enough to bring that contract to their team.

No good. Cap recapture.

If Brad Richards retires or defects in the 2017 off-season (age 37 as of July 1 that year), and was traded to the Dallas Stars in the 2013 off-season, following is an estimated breakdown of the recapture penalties for the involved teams.

Team Benefit Penalty
(2017-18 through 2019-20) $17,000,000 $5,666,667
Dallas Stars (2017-18 through 2019-20) $6,333,333 $2,111,111

IMPORTANT NOTES: Teams do not receive a credit for seasons with negative cap benefit (where cap hit exceeds salary) ... Calculations for players who have been traded during the season are rough estimates based on best information available and may differ from actual league numbers.

It would almost be better if he retired earlier if he was traded

feaster liked richards when he was a free agent. he also missed out his "franchise" player when colorado matched the o'reilly offer sheet. maybe calgary would be interested in richards.

richards has a NTC tho right? why in god's name would he waive it to go to calgary?

My goodness, Richards has a NTC too? Who gave him that contract...Isiah Thomas?

Oh my GOD has he been awful. I would sit him for the next game.

I am deadly serious when I say that - I saw more (and that only goes to show how little I've seen from Richards) from Newbury when he was in.

Can we get Lindberg over here for Sunday?

Sadly Richards isnt going anywhere. He is one of Torts favorites. Just like Torts job will always be safe Richards will be here even though teh smart thing is too buy him out

He just absolutely needs to be bought out after this year. Gone. He's worthless. Thats all I have to say about this piece of ****.

I advocated keeping Brad Richards another season before buying him out but I think you may have to after this season. Can't risk him getting injured next year so that you can't buy him out. It's not even like he's invisible out there, he's a flat out detriment to his line. He kills anything that his line mates have going no matter who it is. His decline is extremely similar to that of Drury after he destroyed his hand and his body started breaking down. Neither player could skate or keep up with the play or even handle a simple pass.

Exactly how I feel. I too wanted him for one more season as a stop-gap for someone like Lindberg.

At this point we might as well just throw Lindberg into the fire and hope he succeeds. I think he will. He's been advertised as good defensively. Much better than what Richards is right now. If Lindberg can come in and have a Stepan-like impact (Stepan's first year) or even just hold down the fort defensively I think we'd be better off than having Richards there taking another roster spot and crippling our cap flexibility for nothing.
