Sorry, but he's been pretty bad for the minutes he garners. He's slow and weak on the puck, forget the atrocious play on the point during the PP. As creative as Scott Gomez.

Comparing him with Gomez is ridiculous. He's no Brassard with the puck, but he's certainly not Gomez. That's absurd.

In this series he's looked like Scott Gomez, a slower Scott Gomez. No creativity, no strength and easily taken care of by the opposition.

He was horrendous in the facoff dot last game too.

He definitely has not been the BR we know, how you come up with 'fine' is all you man.

He's been leaning on that ridiculous "flip pass to nobody" quite a bit in this series. Lousy in the dot, looks slow and indecisive with the puck, even slower when he doesn't have the puck.

He's gotta go. I realize there's the whole "who will replace him next year?" bit to figure out, but it really looks like he's dragging his linemates down. For better or worse, I think he's here until 2014. Meanwhile, Sather will be praying / begging / sacrificing goats in the hope that Malkin will test the UFA market that same summer.

Richards needs to be our 3rd line center. When he was in that role for the last few weeks of the season, he excelled.

How I come up with fine is because he has been neither bad nor good. He hasn't been a liability but he hasn't been a difference maker. No idea how you can say he is Scott Gomez. What ridiculous hyperbole.

He's a 2nd line center at this point. A 60+ point 2nd line center. Worth what he's paid? Nope. But he's also not Scott Gomez.

This is where you lose me.

And I fail to see how you can actually think he's been a liability. Perhaps you can give me some specific instances because I just do not see it. He had one instance where he made me go WTF last game (the final PP in OT for us). But that PP was an abortion in general and everyone on the ice (save Hank) was horrible on it.

He's a liability being the weakest link in an already weak chain. He brings down his line by default - by being slow, being beaten to pucks and having to labor through the simplest of tasks whenever he's on the ice. You don't notice him stressing to make just the simplest play or puck battle?? Take a look its all there, I feel confident enough to say his whole body of work in 40+ minutes through the last two games exposes him for what he's been.

It definitely seems like he loses the puck most of the instances in which he has it in the offensive zone. I can think of 5 or 6 times right away from the last game where he either made a bad pass or was easily bodied off the puck before he even tried to move it. In that sense, he's been a liability in terms of possession.

If you didn't go WTF about him more than once last game, maybe you need to start paying closer attention to him.

If that were the case than he wouldn't have improved so much after the Gabby trade. Clearly Gabby was the weakest link on the team.

I guess you can't think of any specific instances of his being a liability. I am the only one of the two of us who can and I don't even think he's been a liability more than a handful of times.

Why? I'm not going to focus on one player just to pick out the negatives he does so I can post on HF about how much he sucks. I get that that's what is the current trend, but I'll skip it.

I didn't mean it like that. I don't single in on one player, but when one player, who is supposed to be an offensive catalyst, consistently loses the puck easily in the offensive zone, it should be difficult to not notice it. I'm just surprised that you haven't.

You try to avert the convo here by going to the regular season, something that has no part of this discussion.

The last two games, he has looked like a weak link, his slow urgency is what we've seen from countless FA's on the decline over the years.

Oh, I didn't mean that for you. Just about the general hate-on for Richards. A select group of people refuse to look at the situation objectively and basically iso-cam the guy during a game (ignoring any good play he makes and focusing on every bad play).

So two games completely erases his resurgence after the trade deadline? OK, then. What if he comes out and scores 5 times tonight? Does that, then, erase the past two games? You're normally one to talk about sample sizes but then you completely throw it out the window here to make your point.

It only erases it if he actually looks like he belongs with the 20 minute club.

Yes. The playoffs are everything. Especially when everyone says your specialty is ....wait for it....THE PLAYOFFS !

Dumkopf.....

Most of his resurgence post deadline has to do with playing on the 3rd line. He hasn't been playing on the 3rd line since Clowe got hurt.

So the guy can't have a bad game? Sheesh. Better run Callahan out of town, then, since he's been our worst forward so far.

Again, what happens if he plays like he did post-trade deadline? You know, long enough to have an actual sample size and all. It's possible that the past two mediocre games were an aberration considering how solid he has been as of late.

He's played on a number of different lines since the deadline. Even different lines during the same game. I think it's a bit dubious to suggest it's where he's been playing.

Regardless of everything, I think we see him on the squad next year. I'd be really surprised to see him bought out before the summer of 2014.

Jonathan, I like Brad Richards a lot. But c'mon, hes been abysmal for roughly 40 of the 50 games played this season.

This "resurgence" you're talking about took place against some of the worst teams in the NHL.

He continues to look slow in everything he does from skating to decision making. Thats not fine.

Brad Richards-The Key To Success

nash i believe will have a breakout game tonight, the effort is there and he's getting a ton of chances
with last change tonight he will have more room and goals will come

but richards was a point per game guy, last year he played awesome in the playoffs, several clutch points

he looks like he's 40 out there now, at 33 i refuse to believe he has aged this much in only 1 year

if this team has any chance to go far richards is the one that needs to step up, he needs those clutch points he did last year

the bigger the game the better he plays, i just hope this starts to show but my god he looks bad out there, what happened

not to mention stepan can only do so much

maybe switch lines, nash/step/hags then clowe can play with richards

but sooner or later this guy needs to come up huge like last year, remember game 6 at ott, or game 5 vs caps

point is if rangers win this series or beyond this guy needs more moments like this, nash can only do so much
