I think you've got your work cut out for you justifying a spot for Boll tomorrow night vs the Rangers.

That said I hope he gets in. Just cuz I loves me some Boller.

Who doesn't?

As a member of neither extreme, I suggest that this might be possible by not being limited to seeing everything as either black or white. :)

Being slightly more creative with categorization doesn't absolve one of the necessity for comprehending nuance and "shades of gray" judgment. Well, assuming one wants to be intellectually honest, anyways.

Viqsi, without your cheerful admonitions about how others approach things, I don't know what we'd do. :).

Anyway, both of the so-called extremes I described exist on this board: JD/JK apologists, and people who dis Boll. It's consensus around here that Boll's extension is ludicrous, but the extension gets left out of support of management's approach to maintaining this team.

I appreciate nuance, just as much as I appreciate curiosity.

Touche. :D But really, it's okay. That's just because of your need to defer everything to an outside authority. :sarcasm:

(I kinda wish I knew why I've been on a "Therapist" kick lately... wonder what that says about me. )

They do exist, but I don't think that's reason to consider them valid.

Fair 'nuff, and I wasn't trying to accuse you specifically, although I can see how it might have come across that way.

I'd also like to hear someone who thinks JD/JK are the best thing since sliced bread and who also thinks Boll is an average 4th-liner at best reconcile those two thoughts with Boll's extension

Unless you've identified people who you believe fall into both extremes at once, I'm not even sure you know who you're asking.

I'm surprised to see so many of you think Boll is only a fighter. Bill is a very good skater and is relentless on the fore-check. To compare him to Jody is unfair and not accurate. Bill has a letter for a reason and if you actually watch him play you'll notice he does some of the little things others don't.

I'm not a Boll fanboy and though he may seem redundant he certainly isn't a one trick pony. Character goes a long way and for years of having so little on this team I am one who doesn't mind having more. That said, I'm not sure who comes out but I don't think we would see a drop in play and he adds additional toughness.

Ah I miss the guy now. Bring him out !!

I don't agree with you, but I'm sure that they'll find some excuse to put him out there tonight. I wouldn't mess with what's been working. I would actually go with last night's lineup, except I would put Umberger back in. I'm not sure who I would sit, it would probably have to be either Tropp or Comeau. I thought Cam played decently last night.

What "little thing" does Boll do that others don't besides absorb punches to the face?

Comeau is one of our most effective players right now, he's quick on the forecheck, skates with speed and hits everything in sight.

This site is all about whoever has more goals, put them out and that should win games. It's getting old beating our heads together with the people that their history of hockey knowledge is pretty much video games, they would love 5 of the little fast guy in Nintendo Ice Hockey and wonder why they didn't win....

Nothing unique, but he hits harder, and is a somewhat better skater than some of our forecheckers. And he's earned enough of the confidence of the coaching staff and the locker room to be an alternate captain, so there's that too.

I'm not in a rush to put him into the lineup myself, but assuming all he does is get his face bashed in is rather disingenuous.

You realize we've spent the last two weeks hearing about how Gaborik doesn't fit and how Atkinson is a reasonable scratch, right? It's been pretty much consensus.

Nobody ever has any allies on HF. It's always Me Versus The World.

:) . o O (Yeah, and how were you behaving during the "Howson must go"/FANS days, again?) (...shut up.)

My frustration is just with 95% of the people only wanting whoever has more offensive stats to play. That's not the way winning hockey works, it takes a blend of all styles of play to win in the playoffs. I didn't think Atkinson looked very good last night, I would rather see what Boll brings to the lineup over what he brought last night. But I know I'm the only one. Atkinson seems to be gripping the stick a bit and isn't sharp, he should have burried that breakaway. Right now, the physical play is considerably amped up, especially with a game like tonight. Cam tends to get swallowed up in those kinda games. I haven't been impressed with Calvert either lately. He needs to get back to the hard forechecking player he was last year.

Your frustration is misplaced then, because your 95 percent premise it way off. Enjoy your complex, I guess.

The rest of your post I have no problem with, in general. Not sure I'd put in Boll for Cam, but I might for Matty.

We are playing the Rangers tonight, right? Not the Bruins or the Flyers? Perhaps if you spent more time on NHL14 or whatever the heck its called you'd realize the Rangers don't intimidate most (any?) teams with their physical game. Nash,Brass, Richards, Hagelin, et al strike fear into the hearts of no one.

And it would seem that you are just as bull headed in your espousing the playing of physical guys as those of us who would like to see a bit more offensive skill in the lineup. To each his own.

Calvert plays his role very well. You may or may not like the results, but I would not replace him with Boll.

I appreciate what Calvert brings every night.

I disagree, New York has some heavies, Carsillo, Kreider, Boyle. However, why do we only dress a physical lineup to MATCH the other physical teams, why can't WE be the physical team that out muscles the Rangers??

Boll's presence would get the crowd amped up, the players amped up and I think he's an upgrade over Tropp. Let's see what he brings, he's been skating a long time, he's a captain on the team, his calming presence would be good for the young guys in a playoff type game like this. Perfect time to put him in and let's see what we've got.

Maybe he can thrown his buddy Rick off his game.

Aren't we already doing that without Boll in the lineup?

Strange. I got the impression we were already one of the more physical teams in the league. Not the top; kind of in that 5-10 range.

The last thing the Jackets are worried about is Carcillo and Boyle. They've been completely worthless all year. The last players they have to gameplan or set a lineup around.

Boll can't keep up with Krieder nor would he most likely be matched up against that line.
