So are you saying tonight is critical?

Other than the Islanders game, which was a complete dumpster fire, the effort has been pretty good. We need a good bounce, a deflection, or some puck luck, and I think the floodgates will open. No better time than tonight.

Critical? For them, perhaps. For me, definitely! I'm a very poor sport, hate losing, and sit in an area likely to be filled with Wings fans. I don't want to see anything resembling a competitive game - get out fast, score big, pour it on. Silence from all Wings fans? Music to my ears! Open the floodgates, unleash the dogs of war, nuke the whales!

Win.

But then that's not balance. You're taking out a player who doesn't score much for a player who doesn't score much. If you ant to paint with am broad brush and say people want too many offensive players, you're going to have to advocate putting in Boll for someone who is scoring (which I realize right now is no one). Maybe Boll in for Horton? Then you're making a case for balance.

Dude we need to squash this because we are on completely different pages. Im not saying we don't have balance now, people on here would love a team of 12 scorers and no grinders, that's the balance i was talking about, not that we don't have balance now or that by adding Boll for Tropp would change the balance. I think Boll is a better version of Tropp, Tropp hits but Boll hits and fights and is a respected leader in the room..I know you like to dissect sentences, but you're looking too deep on this one.

I would be ok with putting Boll in for Horton however...dude is obviously not near 100%, or if he is, we have another Gaborik on our hands, maybe not even a Gaborik...

Jared Boll has nothing to bring to the table when considering how to get this thing back on the tracks.

I would only want to see Boll if and when we have dinged up players that need to sit for a game or two to heal. His fighting skills mean nothing to this team and the next 11 games.

My daughter loves him, and wants to see him back on the ice badly. I like the guy too, but its a side show imo at this point. Our 4th line moves so quickly, you can't expect Boll to skate alongside MacK and Letestu and contribute.

Boll is a more effective forechecker than Tropp, it's not just fighting skills he brings. He isn't Stu Grimson. He can bring as much as Tropp or Comeau can, I really like what Comeau brings every night too. He skated with Mac for longer than anyone on our roster and most of the nights, they were our most effective line. He has good hands from Jr., who knows what he would do with Letestu?? Why not find out?? Surely you aren't happy with what we've been doing the last 6 games are you??

Sorry, can't agree with you. He brings more effort and energy than most. He is a pretty good skater. He is very good on the forecheck. Never takes a night off. Oh yeah, he will also keep teams honest - win or lose in a fight. Personally I think he has some skill before t will never be confused with a scorer.

He may not be a guy to change the offensive fortunes of this team but I believe he can help with the overall play. He's also highly thought of in the room and has worn an "A" for a reason. We will simply have to agree to disagree on this subject.

Very good post, though Boll is a line in the sand topic, you either understand what he brings and his type of player, or you don't, most on this board are not with us on this subject.

From today's Puckrakers:

--Blue Jackets right wing Jared Boll (ankle) will be scratched for a fourth straight game. He has yet to play since coming off the injured reserve list. Richards said Boll was “ready to go” on Sunday, but Boll said there is “just something there” in regard to his ankle. “I think I’m close,” Boll said. “I had a take with the coaches and we’re kind of on the same page. Some days it’s fine. Some days, I don’t know. But I feel good on the ice, for the most part.”

Kind of nervous throwing Boll back in against the Avs. That kind of hurts when and how often we use our energy line. At least it's at home.

This kind of isn't fair to Boll. Getting back into game shape, and game speed, after a few months off against the Avs? Brutal.

Might have to double shift Calvert a bit to cover a few of Boll's shifts. Maybe he'll have a couple of fights and make it kind of moot.

I'm not that worried about Boller. He's got good speed and decent smarts, probably won't hurt us, though he probably won't help much either.

Definitely a tough game to jump in on, however, it's better that it's a home game to dictate the matchups. I suspect his ice time will be limited (under 8 min is my guess) and his shifts will be timely (spark, tussle, offensive zone...). What I'm more concerned about is how are Horton/RJ's minutes divided among the rest of the team? Who plays up in the lineup? Probably Letestu but I'm not sure I'm sold on that. I wouldn't mind seeing Tropp play with Dubi and Calvert and move Atkinson up with Johansen and Jenner.

Going to be interesting.

I was sure he was going to bury the breakaway last night thereby affirming of all the Bollists (Bollites?) But alas it was not to be; few good hits, an attempt at feeding the opposite wing which came about as close as most Jacket passes. Welcome back.

That says more about RJ than Boll. I think the writing is on the wall for RJ, I'm really starting to think he's moved in the offseason. Not exactly rocket science to reasonably deduct a conclusion like that.

I think the scratchings substantially up the chance that RJ is gone. I'd also be very surprised if Nikitin would come back after being underutilized (and scratched) here.

Do you mean that you don't think the organization wants Nikitin here or that Nikitin won't want to stay here? Or both I suppose?

Some teams would treat him like a top 4 D, and he'd prefer that to being our 6/7. If the Jackets were serious about him being a big part of the future they wouldn't have scratched him. We signalled goodbye. The Jackets don't want Nikitin if they have to pay him what he's worth on the market.
