On the topic of Jose Reyes, any chance the Rockies use him at a different position?

Do they have a young SS that can move into that position and Reyes can go somewhere else?

Or do they know they're going to be crap for a few years and having Reyes at SS doesn't make much of a difference?

I didn't say any of that.

I was disappointed and angry with the trade because they used prospect capital to acquire a player that doesn't help the team's two biggest needs: starting pitching and bullpen help (I don't view Hawkins as a big improvement).

That is a perfectly legitimate response to this deal.

There is no "sky is falling" aspect to my concern or "real GM" kind of snark.

And, there are real concerns about Tulo's health status, contract and possible decline (others have posted his lower walk rate and higher strikeout rate this year).

I can bet there will be a subsequent move for a starter. If there isn't, I'll be stunned.

Hawkins replaces Tepera and a new starter would displace Estrada back to the pen and eliminate one of Schultz/Hendriks from the equation too.

And if Samardzija ends up costing us Stro, is it still time to relax?

The cupboard is bare - nobody wants Norris or Sanchez in a package deal for an ace, or they would have been gone by now. That would couldn't get Kazmir for any of our prospects, should say something in itself.

You would have to be a complete ****** to move stroman for a rental. I don't think AA is a ******

A new starter eliminates Doubront. Estrada only moves from the rotation if the jays acquire two starters.

There is no way they are replacing Estrada before Doubront and IMO Hutch.

And they got out of a terrible Jose Reyes contract. Is that not worth it?

Would you have hoped AA went, nope, sorry, no deal. Need pitching instead?

Dammit, forgot about Doubront.

Unless a miracle happens (like Stroman starting in full form in September), then yeah, Estrada will stay in the rotation if we only get 1 SP.

At least Estrada's been a pleasant surprise. I just wonder if his arm can keep it up over a long period. I don't know if I'd want to find out tbh.

What did they get out of? Tulo has a longer deal, for similar money and he's 29-years-old. The contract matter is a wash. He's signed through 2020 at big money. Reyes' deal was done after next year.

EDIT: My mistake, Reyes deal is longer than I thought. I thought the option kicked in after next year.

Interesting, Jeff Blair was just on with Stellick and said that Tulo has, in the past, indicated that he understands at some point he may move off of SS and play another position.

Blair said it's something that Reyes refused to consider when the Jays brought it up with him earlier in the year/the spring.

Better offense and better defense with a contract that is actually movable down the road.

I think the Rockies made a mistake targeting pitching prospects. They are all groundball oriented so they may find some success there but the environment isn't a joke.

Nothing wrong with Estrada at the number 5 spot. He has been really good the past couple of months. Replacing Doubront is the goal and should be the goal. If you get someone from 3-5 that can eat innings that is the goal. It wont cost high prospects and will enhance rotations.

Very comfortable with Dickey, Buerhle, Acquired Starter, Hutch and Estrada. Especially with a backend of the bullpen of Osuna, Sanchez, Hawkins and Schultz. If our starters can give us 6-7 innings per start we are grooving. And the past month our rotation has been above average.

Need a quality starting pitcher now ... Can't make this deal and not go further.

Yea you can because these guys are all going to be under contract next year as well...

So you can bolster the SP in the offseason where it only costs you $$$$$$

Pillar leading off?

Now I know yall are trippin.

Ah, you caught me. ;)

But I would try Travis again as LO man. It's not like he's had a ton of time to get used to that batting spot, which is quite unique and so maybe he just needs a bit more time to get acclimated. The payoff if it can click with him will be filthy, giving our batting order an incredibly nasty look for opposing pitchers, and with our batting lineup through 6 or 7 being by far the best in the league, as it probably already was but now even more-so.

So the Jays once again mortgage the future rotation for a question mark injury prone hitter. Time to get a real GM this is getting ridiculous.

I say Travis lead off, tulo clean up.

I have a feeling collabello will be the bat on the move. He's expendable to us as a team and it could allow Pompey to come up and field in left
