This is an "all-in" kind of move that only makes sense if a subsequent move for a starter is coming.

I'm not sure I see it that way. I think acquiring even a decent starter is an important move for this season (even just someone to fill in that Doubront spot), but the Tulowitzki move improves the team for the next few years as well without any financial commitment. Hoffman is a big price to pay (and Castro and Tinoco certainly aren't nothing) but this move isn't all about 2015.

Need a quality starting pitcher now ... Can't make this deal and not go further.

Yep. You don't get TT and not go out and get a starter if you're AA. You've come this far, you've assembled the best lineup you can assemble, now you have to get a pitcher - and he will.

Is he going to be in the lineup tonight? I might be obliged to go to the game.

These next ten games at home are going to be fun.

The prospects given up in the Marlins deal were used to acquire a top of the rotation pitcher: Josh Johnson. The fact that he bombed in Toronto doesn't change that.

It's funny. He was a 5 WAR top flight pitcher when healthy in Miami. That still mystifies me how he totally all of a sudden imploded. It's like a bomb went off out of nowhere. No one could've seen it coming.

Hell, the funniest part was that it was a contract year for him. It badically went from "I hope we re-sign him but it'll be expensive" to "okay, we may have a shot at retaining him", to "okay, **** this, just give him a QO and let him go, don't bother", to "holy ****ing dhit, we can't even qualify you" to "GTFO" in the span of mere months.

agreed but they need to acquire a top flight pitcher and have 2 choices.

1.trade the rest of your farm to acquire a Cole Hamels type or 2. go out and sign Price to an FA deal.

We know Beaston has that stupid 5 year deal in place so that almost eliminates going after an FA pitcher of Price's caliber.

Hopefully the new Prez will scrap that rule and understand giving out long term deals of longer than 5 years is about getting 3-4 good years while you are trying to win now and who cares about year 5-7 deal after a few playoff appearances and maybe god forbid a WS title.

Now call up Pompey for LF and get another arm and we have seriously improved our run prevention.

He wasn't healthy. Not saying he was damaged goods, but he was hurt almost from the moment he got here and has never recovered.

I fly back to Ontario for 10 days next week on vacation ... Good timing for this move :)

Going to a couple of games for sure.

With the ties to Shark, it wouldn't surprise me to see that is who the Jays land. Would love to see that plus another bullpen arm in a package deal.

People may criticize AA for the Jays not winning, but it can't be a lack of effort. His moves to acquire elite players in the last few years are pretty crazy.

Now call up Pompey for LF and get another arm and we have seriously improved our run prevention.

Yes please .. This team needs better LF defense.

What is everyone's thoughts about Ian Kennedy?

With this move AA maybe looking for a slightly less expensive option for the rotation. Is he enough of an upgrade?

I still can't believe that the Jays will let the Yankees win the division. Jays are the better team.

13 head to head games left. We can just as easily get right up on their ass as we can play ourselves out of the division race and solely focus on the Twins with the head to head games.

What if this is the only deal?

Then I realize that AA still improved the team. All a bunch of what ifs in your post. Sky is falling what ifs.

How is it "the sky is falling" to wonder if they have enough prospects left to make a deal for a legitimate starting pitcher?

It's a perfectly reasonable response to a deal that saw the Jays trade two of their best pitching prospects.

You disagreeing doesn't make my concerns any less valid.

I think the second wild card is EASILY obtainable. I don't even think you need 89 wins to get it. For me, it will be a big disappointment if the Jays don't at least get a wild card spot.

Because why would you go get a top SS when you need starting pitching right? Theyre never gonna be able to acquire starting pitching! If we had a real GM...

Can't be happy with a good trade. Always something to ***** about.

After all is said and done we paid a big price. We are a better team today. But still doesn't fix our issues. Hope Tulo stays healthy.

Kennedy is no better than guys you sign to minor league deals. His peripherals are pretty awful. He'd get torched I'm our park.

I love too that we went from a hacker who doesn't really walk to a very patient obp machine. This lineup will wear pitchers down.

Agreed. Hell, I even think the Astros are catchable too. If we're gonna be grabbing a WC spot and basically the right to flip a coin, might as well have home field to go with it.

Most important thing is playoff baseball is well within reach. Of course, depends on what happens with teams around and in front of us.

I love that opposing pitchers will have to face 4 straight players with 800+ OPS and 35 bombs

Opposing starters better be sharp in the first inning

Like other guys, takes a game or two to work out visa issues. Some say he could be here wednesday.

I find it interesting that the guys Jays didn't end up promoting to Dunedin in Tinoco was the one they dealt. After seeing Greene and SRF getting promoted, it was weird Tinoco was left in Lansing but I guess Jays weren't too high on him.

That's another solid power arm Rockies got though.
