How is Guerin Doing?

Fenton offered him a contract, but highly likely wasn't the one he ended up signing.

Spurgeon had no talks with Fenton.

JEE was the first contract under the Guerin regime. I think most of it was done by AGM did most of the work on it during the GM search the Wild did.

Guerin was named GM on 8/22/19. Spurgeon signed his contract on 9/14/19.

I have a hard time blaming him much for this since it was a pre-pandemic signing. Cap should probably be >$90 million right now.

Probably only 1 year and ~$800k too much at the time. Just became more burdensome due to unforeseen factors.
Thus far, he's been worth it. Still a number of years though.

3+ weeks, and Spurgeon was the #1 priority. The draft was done and there was nothing left in free agency. Russo made a big deal about all of this in his "ding dong the Fenton is gone" victory lap.

My bad. Thought you said no talks with Guerin. That would've been extremely weird.

I mistyped Guerin's name when I meant Fenton. Caught it after I posted it then and edited it. So you probably saw it about the same time

He REALLY fumbled the bag with Greenway.
There isn't one contender that doesn't have a worse contract or didn't have one in the last year. The contracts we are trying to get out of are one or two years at 3 or 3.5M. The bad ones on the Wild are magnified due to lack of cap space. And since Greenway is 26 we might be able to buy him out at 1/3rd.

Greenway is fine. He’s actually driving possession/play. He started the year horribly, but I would guess he’s finally healthy now

Wasn't Fenton trying to trade Spurgeon before he was fired?

I don't know about actively at the time. TDL I think was his plan to sell him.

So regardless, Spurgeon's contract was 100% Guerin. Fenton had no intention of offering him that contract.

Let’s give a DMC score for Billy here, and to piss off the haters…

SSS+ (a plus because I can)

Suck it pessimists.

DMC? all I can think of is Run-DMC and the only rating they had was:
