Compete is cool and all but what does Bertuzzi actually do well? Not really strong on the boards, falls down too much, not really a shooter, not really a netfront garbage man, occasionally makes some nice one touch passes on the fly in scrambles but not a consistent playmaker in any organized sense. What’s the job he actually does for his line?
Netfront garbage man is what I see. He just for whatever reason can't bang them in right now.

I do get your point. Trying and working hard can only get you so far. Eventually you have to produce

Congrats to a tired and sick team on the back end of a b2b. That's a gutsy performance. However, I'd like to see them tighten up in their own zone. Tonight, they were able to bend enough and not break, but the forecheck the Rags displayed...coulda been a different story if Jones didn't make a couple of strong stops in the early part of the third. On more than one occasion we had control of the puck and didn't clear the zone, resulting in long shifts and continued pressure. I'm not expecting perfection, but if I'm Keefe I'd remind the boys about the need to tidy things up.

Brodie is a concern for me. Of course, he may be sick, but his usual strengths are not up to the standards he's set. Endurance being one of those strengths. He's being asked to play about a minute more per game than he was asked the past 3 seasons and I'm not seeing the same durability late in the game. The return of Liljegren should help. McCabe has done his share on the right side, and I'm sure Lily will need time to get up to speed, but giving TJ some reduced minutes is something I hope Keefe recognizes.

Jones, well done.
McCabe, ohhhh dude.
AM, yes guy.

Other than Reaves, who is sitting at 100% with a 1-0 record at the dot, I think a little appreciation for JT's FO% is warranted. Though he didn't get a point on the play, his clean FO win on the PP, leading to Marner's 5-3 goal was important. He did it last night as well, leading to Rielly's goal with 6 seconds left. A 62% success rate, thank you.

I dunno what people see but he does so many things that don't show on the score sheet and he's great around the net. He's also pretty underrated around the boards at retrieving pucks. Tonight in particular he made a bunch of plays all over the ice, but ended up with 0 points.

He's a fantastic passer and doesn't mind taking shit to make a play, especially infront of the net. He just gets the job done and at some point points and goals are gonna pile on for him.

Seems like he works hard not smart. JT’s goal last night is my ideal garbage man play, tied up the D in front and as soon as the puck got in a shooting lane he does the quick pivot to the net and has his stick open. Bertuzzi in that situation would be still fighting the D man with his stick parallel to the ice, looks good and like the “right” thing to be doing as a netfront guy but doesn’t actually help things much.

I see a clumsier/less balance Hyman where yes he’s the first on the puck a lot and gets a scrum started but it’s usually someone else fishing the puck out because he’s on his ass by the time other players show up. He’s got a bit of the same thing Bunting had too where he’s not very smart in the big picture but makes clever little touch plays on pure instinct.

They have to take advantage. Need 4, maybe 5 out of those 6 points. Can't let it be like Chi.
Rangers will be tougher than tonight, that’ll be a tough one but 5 of 7 seems doable.

He's always been a Hyman and Bunting level player. Greasy player that does well with high skilled players because of the work he does. I think you're downplaying Bertuzzi's value in terms of creating chances, winning puck battles and how he's able to create zone exits. He needs to produce, no doubt, but nothing to be down about his play over the last 6 weeks.

I kinda like the 11-7 look, especially with our D depleted; can manage those situational minutes better I think. Plus, the forwards end up in the blender a little which I think makes them focus a little more since changes are irregular.

Jarnkrok is so valuable at his current salary; just keeps chipping in... Core 4 forwards were great all night, generating from the get-go. Rielly is studly (as long as he is not facing a 2-on-1). Good bounceback from Timmins. I really do love Benoit and Lagesson's simple and effective play; they are aggressive physically... sketchy with the puck but fierce competitors. McCabe smokin! Brodie is struggling this season, but was decent tonight - certainly more than good enough.

I missed the pre-game show, so it took me about half a period to figure out which forward was out (other than Reavo)... might have just been the way this game went, but didn't feel Knies was missed; suspect it would be noticeable over a longer period. Gregor is not a fit on the top 6; he is what he is, and is good at it. I love how easily McMann moves around the ice, smooth.

3 out of 4 points on that back-to-back should be a confidence builder. The dreaded trap game awaits on Thursday!
