Makiniemi isn’t in warmups, there’s a goalie here wearing #39, Duganne.

Sounds like Makiniemi’s sick so we have an EBUG. Well, we’ll see how this goes. Romanov couldn’t stop a beach ball in his last two appearances.

EBUG/signed to ATO. Makiniemi under the weather; Chrona injured. Could recall Warm from ECHL, but probably not in time for today's game.

Calgary scores on a deflection early, but a Cuda stretch pass hits a referee perfectly, allows Jacob Peterson to score on a breakaway. 1-1.

End of one, still 2-1 SJ. Refs aren’t calling anything tonight either, just rampant interference and holding out there.

So far so good with Romanov.

Biggest crowd of the year so far, I’m pretty sure.

First penalty finally comes when Pulli breaks a stick with a slash. Calgary scores on the PP, 2-2.

Second PP goal for Calgary makes it 3-2, while Dustin Wolf is starting to play like his usual self against us.

Cuda didn’t make it easy on themselves that period. Four minor penalties, mostly on desperation infractions in the defensive zone. Still 3-2 after two periods, but things are pretty tilted towards Calgary right now.

Easy to get a big crowd when they give away tickets to all the youth teams.

Puck goes into the Calgary net but it’s called back on goalie interference. We do get a PP though.

(edit) Wanted to get a replay to check, because it didn't seem like the goalie interference and there was no announcement. Now that I'm looking at it I think Studnicka kicked it in, actually:

Is that what it was? I was noticing a bunch of guys with matching beer league jerseys as the night went on, so maybe it wasn't even just youth teams.

Anyway, Cuda lose 3-2. Calgary wasn't really interested in pressing further, they mostly went into a neutral zone trap type of thing and only had 3 SOG themselves in the third period.

We didn't play all that badly for the most part, but that stretch of penalties and failed PKs in the second doomed us.

I was rinkside for this game and cuda just looked flat in the second and third period.

To me, third period they just looked like they couldn't figure out how to get through the neutral zone, since Calgary was sitting back. In the second, yes. That's why they ended up taking all those penalties, they were getting beat in the defensive zone.

Also this is the second time someone on here has described them as "flat" recently and having watched them every game, this is just how they always look to me

I went to both the Sharks and Cuda game yesterday. Both exact same game basically. Good first period with multiple chances, multiple goals, engaged physically, then one killer goal in the first period (two in the NHL) and they come out for the second and they just look like they don’t care. They look like they gave up. Third they try to fight back but it’s a very half hearted effort. Makes me wonder how much of this is organizational, how much is the players, and how much is just losing in general.

Let me just say though 2 games and 2 losses if that ain’t SJ hockey these days I don’t know what is.

There's probably plenty of truth in that, as far as I know the two teams are supposed to play the same system. I don't watch the Sharks as often as most years, but when I see complaints about how they're playing, they're pretty much the same issues I have with this Cuda team. It's hard to get as excited about things down here with these issues, so a lot of my posts just become a blow by blow of what happened.

Like, one thing that's interesting to follow is how this team performs based on who the Sharks' coach is. The Cuda's best years were the Sharks' DeBoer years. We were top 4 in the division every season during that stretch. I do feel like the way this team plays this season isn't getting the most out of the talent on this roster.
