The team in general was flat. Not very much urgency or second effort. They looked like a group of individuals more than a team. I wouldn’t be surprised to see McCarthy let go at the end of the season.
While guys like Lindblom and Peterson were coasting through most of the game Simek was engaged and leading like a good vet. I‘m not surprised they gave him an A. He should get an AHL deal next year if he wants one.
Unfortunately, besides Muk, I didn’t see any future Sharks on the ice. None of the Cuda are good enough to have a NHL career on skill alone but most of them don’t seem to know that.
I think it depends on what you mean by "future Sharks," as I think some of the forwards that were out there yesterday might be able to carve out a decent role as third liners. Cardwell and Robins in particular. Cardwell really didn't do much of anything last night though, no, so if that's your only experience with seeing him I'd probably have that opinion too.
Actually, now that you've mentioned Peterson, he has looked like a shell of himself since returning from injury in December. Robins returned at around the same time and he's gotten healthy, Peterson meanwhile is just invisible out there most of the time. There's a good reason he's on line 4 right now.
That first paragraph (that I quoted) is just a description of how this team plays normally. Often just seems like we have very little chemistry and overall structure is barely there. Last night, in which we have relatively few mistakes, a good special teams performance and at least adequate goaltending, is pretty much our best-case scenario. One positive I have, which will wow absolutely nobody except me who's been watching this team all season, is that we actually kept the offensive zone for decent amounts of time and did pretty well on the forecheck.
