Barracuda News & Discussion - Part 6

Much better, the difference is 100% that he's stepping up into offensive plays now. He was playing more passive early in the season.

His defense still isn't great, but having Holway staying back to cover for him while he jumps into the play has helped in that department.

I'm not going to hang it all on him but Melnichuk had a pretty poor game tonight. Let in all six, and some felt stoppable. The first two periods were all Bakersfield but it felt like the game could've been closer than it was.

Lane Pederson had two assists in his return to the AHL tonight (both secondary), but I did not think he looked great. Lot of absent-minded and low effort plays out of him. I apparently was not alone.



Alright, I'll try to find some good out of this one. Emond came in during the second and only faced six shots, but hey, he stopped them all. He's looked better his last couple appearances, though his early-season play was atrocious, so any improvement on that is welcome. Halbgewachs had two goals. Nick Merkley had a pretty good game too, with a goal and an assist and some physical play.

I have to try to find some positives out of this team lately, it is just depressing to watch at the moment.

Up until last night, I hadn’t watched a Cuda game in many, many weeks. From the eye test in watching them pretty closely early in the year, Kniazev looks like a totally different player to me. Fast, confident, aggressive, and competitive at both ends of the ice. I was really impressed in what I saw based on my Cuda hiatus. I feel like he has made huge strides. He looked equivalent to Merkley to me, or maybe slightly better last night, from Merkley’s AHL games I’ve caught. I also think Raska looks much better. He was invisible to me early in the season and seems to be much more of a presence now. There were other players who flashed some skill, but I feel Kniazev in particular was the best Cuda player on the ice last night.

Kniazev was outstanding tonight as well. He even threw a couple hits tonight, which is a new trick for him.

Haven't really posted much of anything cause I thought it'd just get eaten by the server migration, but Cicek returned Wednesday and scored a goal on his return:



John Leonard with a hat trick tonight.

Also worth noting, Zachary Emond is getting more starts, and he's getting a lot better in net. I mean, it'd be hard for him to get worse, as I thought he was the worst goalie I've seen the Barracuda dress after his early season starts. Tonight, 36 saves on 38 shots and the Barracuda win 6-2.

Only bit of bad news from tonight, Halbgewachs took a hit midway through the first, left and didn't return. That's going to be a big loss if he's out.

What do you think the chances are that Cicek gets an NHL contract? Seems to be a good player with bottom pairing potential.

Leonard is a name I haven't seen in a bit, good to see from him. The big team could use what he brings if he can elevate his game.

Honestly, I don't see how he'd be any worse than Gregor. Certainly more useful than starting both Viel and Gadjovich (or Gadjovich at all).

If it were up to me, I'd have him signed for next season, 100%. Barracuda missed his puck moving ability while he was out and it's not like we have a ton of defensive prospects in the system as it is. He's been a good find.

Orange being phased out. Expect three jerseys next season, the alternate with new logo (that league exec really thoughtwas sharp).
No general admission section in new barn.

Bummer, the changes they really need are behind the bench....
 
Brinson Pashinchuk on 2nd intermission radio. He developed allergy to gluten, diary, Peanuts and almonds. Loss 20 pounds. Totally changed diet. Shopping takes a couple of hours due to all the label reading.

Hopes to be back in lineup this weekend.
