Jays have too many catchers and he likely gets taken in the rule five draft in the off season.

Adams is already on the 40 man roster so not eligible for the rule 5 draft.

I'm rather ambivalent on the trade. Adams is nothing much, but Hand is a rental who hasn't been all that good this year and we're probably not going to make the playoffs. Feels a bit like wasting a nickel. But it's a nickel so it has almost no value anyway.

I meant next rule five draft. I doubt the Jays would protect him which means a team could take him.

I think this might be similar to the Ray gamble last year. Bring him in and maybe he likes things and is open to coming back next season. This is basically a feel out situation for a few months and maybe it becomes a multiple year engagement.

Not how it works, for the Jays to take him off the 40 man they would have to DFA him, which would result in them losing him on waivers(or some random trade for cash considerations). Basically the same thing, but not via the same method.

If the trade is completed... just wow. The blockbuster of all blockbusters. Not only do the Dodgers no longer have to worry about re-signing Seager given they have Turner for next season, but they also have one of the games best starting pitchers for a World Series run. This is an example of when you sell the top of your farm, not where the Blue Jays are right now. The clock is ticking on some of their key players and Kershaw is a free agent after this season, not to mention they can actually win in front of their fans this season.

Because these teams dont care about a rebuild. They just sign FA instead of young players. No budget or control. Money is no object.
I think it's a combination of having no budget and drafting/developing well.

Dodgers are what the Jays should aim to be (maybe with a bit smaller payroll). If the Jays continue to draft and develop like they are I expect they can contend on a consistent basis. All the young talent allows you the flexibility to spend money and consistently make big moves during the season.
