Because these teams dont care about a rebuild. They just sign FA instead of young players. No budget or control. Money is no object.

The Dodgers spend a lot of money, but they rely heavily on building internally. The majority of the good players on the team came up with the organization (Smith, Kershaw, Buehler, Urias, Seager, Bellinger...) or were dumped by other teams, picked up for nothing as scrubs, then broke out (Muncy, Taylor, Turner).

The Dodgers are basically the Rays with money. They developed a lot of their good players. And developed others to trade for the players they want.

It might be the model Toronto shoots for, but it shouldn't be what they do right now because they could still use another year or two to push some more of their youth up to the bigs to create as broad a foundation as possible. You want to make those big trades when you think you only have a couple holes to fill.

Under normal circumstances I'd think he would be ready tomorrow, but who knows if suddenly needing to get his passport in order might throw a wrench in things.

Washington's going through a covid outbreak too so there might be some extra testing required

Like I said if we can grab Berrios without giving up a top 8 prospect in our system, I’m in! I’ll do Hiraldo+. Hiraldo, Lopez and Smith? I know they want arms. Maybe add Stripling, Hatch and/or Kay? Would consider Groshans in the package if they want to add Polanco.

Re-sign Ray and next years rotation is 80% done.

Ray
Berrios
Ryu
Manoah

Twins trade chatter: What we're hearing about José Berríos, Byron Buxton and Kenta Maeda as deadline approaches - The Athletic

The New York Mets are very interested in Berríos, but not so much in the price tag associated with acquiring the durable right-hander. The Mets were said to have sticker shock at the Twins’ early ask — at least two top-100 prospects or a top prospect and a pre-arbitration eligible major-leaguer — and haven’t pursued him, not wanting to get into a bidding war against the San Diego Padres, Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays, who have better farm systems.

• If the Twins did deal away a Berríos or Buxton-type player, they’d be far more interested in adding prospects who are projected to be big leaguers no later than 2023 as opposed to lower-level prospects slated for the big leagues in 2025 and 2026.

• While the Blue Jays have very intriguing arms available in right-handers Alek Manoah and Nate Pearson, the Twins have expressed more interest in Toronto’s next tier of prospects, a group that is heavy on position players. Austin Martin, Jordan Groshans and Orelvis Martinez are all listed as shortstops for a team that has Bo Bichette at the major-league level.

I'm not dealing any of Martin, Groshans, Moreno or Martinez for Berrios. f*** off. Unless he's agreeing to some sort of extension, because the likelihood of a run this year is low and those aren't prospects you deal for one season in 2022 IMO.

Other teams are getting guys for peanuts or quantity over quality packages and the only team to give up really high prospects on their list was to get a Scherzer AND Turner together.

You want to deal one of the above for one of those Miami starters? Sure. Jose Ramirez? Ok. Marquez who has 2 more years after this one? Fine.

But not for one good run. But I'm not the GM.

I'd do Pearson + for Berrios if you can somehow have an agreement in place for some sort of contract extension.
