Hand better than Romano or a good tandem like Henke and Ward?

He's been more just solid this year than the elite reliever he was the last 5 years (which is reflected in the cost). Good addition to an area of desperate need, but not on the same level as Romano.

Hand hasn’t been his usual self but he’s an upgrade nonetheless. I always liked Adams when he was coming up through the system and had hopes for him but he clearly is without a path to playing time on this roster, so I’m happy he should get a chance with Washington. I wanted another lefty for the pen and Brad Hand is a good one, can’t complain with that.

Seemed like a bit much to give up for a mediocre rental? Or was Riley nowhere in the Jays plans?

Nowhere at all. Currently 4th on the catcher depth chart and 5th on the "future" catcher depth chart. With a few guys needing 40-man spots in the offseason he was probably going to find a new home soon either way.

The worst thing you could say about this deal is that they could have tried to trade Adams for a similarly valued prospect who didn't need to be added to the 40-man, but... meh.

*Still need at least 2 high end arms if we want to make a run.

Pearson is also supposed to be back sometime in August (but who knows with his injury problems).

If healthy he could be a nice boost to our BP.

Yep... guys who don't really have a place on the team in exchange for guys who can help now.

I still kind of want to see them make an addition for an impact player with control. But don't worry, I'm definitely not thinking about the possibility of a huge Jose Ramirez trade now that Cleveland has clearly signaled that they're giving up on the season with the Cesar Hernandez trade.

Is Cleveland really going to keep him when the next two seasons he's about to make 26 million dollars?

That number doesnt seem like much but up until now he's only made a combined 25 million dollars or so in his entire career. Throw in the fact that franchise doesnt have much money (currently 30th ranked in team payroll) and I would assume they would be looking to deal him before he gets paid and being able to walk in free agency in 2024.

Good trade.

Adams has too much swing and miss to project as an MLB player. K rates in AAA were off the charts and looked lost against MLB breaking pitches. Good to get something now rather than nothing a year from now.
