Where does he say that in the video? The only thing he talks about is regarding Boone Jenner, and Jenner came out and denied it.

That’s not the only podcast that had been discussing it, and further Friedman said it today. It’s been posted in this thread multiple times, and yesterday in the old thread when it was still technically a rumor from I think Russo; it’s in today’s article on sportsnet (or one of them idk if there’s multiple by now)

Then he should've asked? He's the captain, they have group chats you know. It's a bad look releasing that statement then the PA finding out from their own investigation. A captains gotta have the pulse of his teammates.

This statement was hard to read without cringing. The "I had to violate their privacy and go digging through their phones so I could get to know them better" excuse is so lame. Like, if you want to get to know someone, maybe ... try having a conversation with them like a normal person? Even if his excuse is true (which it obviously isn't), it still displays a stunning lack of social aptitude, which isn't exactly the type of quality you want in a coach anyways.

A hockey locker room is not a therapy session, you're getting payed millions of $$$ to play a game, the coach is not there to babysit your ass and hold your hand. young guys today are soft as butter. I have an idea why not get rid of all coaches ad let the players coach themselves, I mean thats what they're doing right now anyway. Why have coaches then?
This argument is certainly something. “Why have coaches then?”

This is the video and podcast that started this all... And he claims in the video from his player source that Jenner walked in and Babs literally asked to see photos right away, and Jenner denied that's not how it happened. A lot of context was probably missed by the player source when he sent Bissonnette the message, and Bissonnette just ran with it in that context. Which Jenner said was not true.

I think that Mike Badcock will be just fine, he accomplished everything there is in the world of hockey. Stanley cup, Olympic gold medal, millions of $$$$$ in the bank account, I think that Mike will survive. Young players nowadays are like very fragile little flowers. Lol It's a good thing they're living in 2023 and not 1973 because they wouldn't last one second back in the day they would shrink away lol
But babcocks excuse was he's a fragile flower and he wanted to see babies playing in sandboxes and engagement photos.

Didn't coaches just coach back in 1973? Did they ask to send your polaroid wedding album in training camp?

It's interesting that the NHLPA is the one releasing the statement that it was untenable going forward. It seems unlikely but is it possible they're helping Columbus out by playing bad cop when it comes to ditching Babcock? To try and save a little face?

Honestly even if this turned out to be a misunderstanding, just by the sheer drama it's hard to see any way Babcock could continue to coach effectively there.

That very well could be the case. Which is, honestly, a good move by the NHLPA if only for the players and fanbase to not have to deal with as much mockery none of them asked for.

I still think that unless Columbus absolutely shocks the world and goes on one hell of a tear, this needs to be Jarmo's final year. He's had a decade and the best the Jackets have ever managed under him is a first round exit except for their fluke sweep of Tampa.

At this point how does Jarmo survive? He brought this circus act to Columbus and has accomplished almost nothing his entire tenure.

As for good ole Mike. Goodbye, and don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out.
Davidson should also be cashiered. Jarmo hired Babcock out of desperation and it was Davidson's job to catch that and instead tell Jarmo to pack his bags. But Davidson was likely desperate too, and should have been canned by Priest or whoever else is holding the reins there.

ally nobody would be, and I’m gonna assume you still haven’t read any of the details and think he got fired for “looking at family photos”
yikes, someone got offended very quickly. i truly apologize.
the original statement was meant to be sarcastic

Yeah I read that, but it doesn't say he took someone's phone literally from their hand that's what were discussing and this poster is claiming that sources are saying today. It says the young players were uncomfortable after, and that one issue was several minutes of looking at it, so the player was uncomfortable for how long he looked at his phone, not that he forcefully grabbed his phone and started looking through it.

But babcocks excuse was he's a fragile flower and he wanted to see babies playing in sandboxes and engagement photos.

This excuse sounds even more idiotic given the fact that he only seems to do this to young rookies or sophomores. Obviously very few players that age are going to have families of their own yet.

Jenner was put in an incredibly uncomfortable position with both his coach and his management (and maybe some of his teammates if they thought it was nothing.) if it was even true, and it’s been said a bunch that not every player felt exactly the same or had all the same experiences.

Also this defense was early and he might not have know what went with other players

Maybe the name was wrong in a game of telephone, maybe it happened and he didn’t care enough to have his famous coach fired/felt pressure or who knows. They said his phone was played on airplay, but he’s him and other players had issues, so regardless what happened with Jenner idk why you’re so caught up on that.

It’s been reported by multiple respected journalist/insiders

This is one of the most ridiculous situations I’ve ever seen and I’ve been following this league a long time. Everyone has to get fired for this right?

Source? I remember hearing the players were unhappy but never heard anything about Babcock intentionally waiting so no one would stop him. Which would still be an unfounded accusation from Modano.

My main issue is people get the context wrong. He didn't scratch him on his 1,500 game. He scratched him for a game and there were no longer enough games left for Modano to reach 1500. Also Modano missed a lot of games that year and was mostly awful when he was in the lineup.

Is it a bummer to not reach 1,500 games? sure. But it's mostly just a round number and not even a major milestone like 1000 games. I'm guessing Babcock was probably unaware of Modano's games played, probably found out at some point, and didn't give a shit. His job is to win games. Is it hardass? Sure. I just don't think he owes Modano an apology because he didn't let him get to a round number.

That's the podcast.

Here's the quotes:

Modano said his teammates, particularly Kris Draper and Nicklas Lidstrom, were not pleased with the coach’s decision. Moreover, he said Red Wings GM Ken Holland did not know it was happening or he would have stepped in.

“Yeah, Drapes (Kris Draper) was (upset) ... you know, it was really kind of last second. No one really knew until they got to the game and saw what was happening. And then word spread through the locker room, you know, ‘He would have got 1,500 the next game,’ so Nick (Lidstrom) was a little upset. Kenny Holland didn’t know about it actually until he got to the game. He says to this day he probably would have stepped in and told Mike, ‘We need to have him get to this milestone.’ So yeah, the older guys were frustrated, and I think some of them were already frustrated with Mike at the time way before that. They were all feeling for me at the time.”
