Not so much covering for him, but as a captain how can you go and release that statement then have your teammates talk to the PA about Babcock.

He should've talked to his teammates before releasing any statement. Now you think any player in that room is going to think Jenner is going to have their back?
Because in the end the worst thing Biz did was name Jenner by name. Jenner was forced to come out and say his experience was not like that. Id bet Biz may regret the fact he actually name dropped anyone, if he didnt we wouldnt have people making really weird claims like this against Jenner and his character

do we know which teammates? if they were "young players" he never played with, how can he possibly know what happened to them?

Then he should've asked? He's the captain, they have group chats you know. It's a bad look releasing that statement then the PA finding out from their own investigation. A captains gotta have the pulse of his teammates.

A hockey locker room is not a therapy session, you're getting payed millions of $$$ to play a game, the coach is not there to babysit your ass and hold your hand. young guys today are soft as butter. I have an idea why not get rid of all coaches ad let the players coach themselves, I mean thats what they're doing right now anyway. Why have coaches then?

You sound like you’re stuck in 1973.

Walk in your room uninvited, take a look at all your stuff, then read your diary because someone really wants to know who you are. Perfect example

Maybe for older people phone is just property, but for young people it might be the only place on earth they have that’s truly 100% private.
It's actually more private for older people.

I'm talking digital data here.

You know how many old people are out there that want nothing to do with any sort of social media?

Or tried it out and then went about deleting their entire digital history because it is f'n invasive.........

And along comes Babcock, your new boss, and he wants to look at what's on your phone.........

Hell no. I'd tell him I don't have a phone. He'd say I'm pretty sure you have a phone in your pocket. I'd tell him I don't even have a pocket. He'd say you're a liar I can see that you have pockets now empty them and we'll get that phone and I can look at all you pictures.

Yeah, how do you defend that scenario. That is f'd up.

Mike Modano talked about it. Basically he said Babcock waited until the moment of the game to announce the healthy scratch so no one could do anything. A bunch of players were livid, even Ken Holland was upset and said had he known in advance he would have overruled Babcock - but Babcock intentionally waited so no one would know or could stop him
Source? I remember hearing the players were unhappy but never heard anything about Babcock intentionally waiting so no one would stop him. Which would still be an unfounded accusation from Modano.

My main issue is people get the context wrong. He didn't scratch him on his 1,500 game. He scratched him for a game and there were no longer enough games left for Modano to reach 1500. Also Modano missed a lot of games that year and was mostly awful when he was in the lineup.

Is it a bummer to not reach 1,500 games? sure. But it's mostly just a round number and not even a major milestone like 1000 games. I'm guessing Babcock was probably unaware of Modano's games played, probably found out at some point, and didn't give a shit. His job is to win games. Is it hardass? Sure. I just don't think he owes Modano an apology because he didn't let him get to a round number.

It is? How does getting rid of a couple of dinosaurs who shot them selves in the feet with bad behavior equate to “young guys are soft and coaches don’t even get to coach anymore”.

What an absurd and fantastical jump in thought to suit your narrative.

Seems like most of the other HCs are doing fine and more than a few have the respect of their entire locker rooms - being both great tacticians and communicators.

Has a Columbus player come out and said Babcock literally took their phone from his hand and started looking through their phone? Or has the NHL said this is what Babcock did?
It’s reported multiple times by different people, and it’s basically the only specific detail anyone’s reported. It’s a pretty safe bet

Exactly. Babcock is not their babysitter. He's not there to hold their hand. Players are f***ing adults. It's not Babcock's job to sleuth into their private photos on their phones. If a player does not perform to Babcock's liking, he can cut or bench their asses. What they do in their personal life is none of his business.

Why? I'll tell you one thing coaches aren't needed for ....

Lmao why do all Columbus fans have such a victim complex? I’ve listened to the podcast since it came out and they’ve never ripped on CBJ too hard. At least not enough for me to notice.
The Blue Jackets were awful last year and had the 2nd worst record in hockey, what were they supposed to do, say all was good and sing their praises? When the Bruins are abysmal in a few years because we can't develop anyone, I'll expect the same

They’ll answer like normal because that’s actually normal.

The meetings were one on one. He likely wasn’t there. He talked about his meeting with Babs

Babs and any coach can’t pull the same stuff with secure vet leaders and big money (with lots of term) stars. Those players will always be more secure than coach. His behavior with them on average would likely be way more respectful than with the kids
who knows- some may be offended

Where does he say that in the video? The only thing he talks about is regarding Boone Jenner, and Jenner came out and denied it.

Man, I have never had children.

I have many nephews and a niece.

If I was a parent, I'd make sure to have a home "hub" computer with tons of storage, back up to the back up, and a detachable backup to the backup at the very least.

It's weird to me that young people today don't have like a music collection. They have a subscription to spotify.

They don't have photos stored away, they have digital photos in the cloud.

Huh, maybe that's why they don't seem to care about showing up to working and actually doing something physical to pay for something physical to the touch that they wanted really bad.

At this point how does Jarmo survive? He brought this circus act to Columbus and has accomplished almost nothing his entire tenure.
It's interesting that the NHLPA is the one releasing the statement that it was untenable going forward. It seems unlikely but is it possible they're helping Columbus out by playing bad cop when it comes to ditching Babcock? To try and save a little face?

Honestly even if this turned out to be a misunderstanding, just by the sheer drama it's hard to see any way Babcock could continue to coach effectively there.
