If Babcock wanted to support Dubas’ vision, he would have played the players where they were intended to play (Barrie on the PP or Spezza, etc).

If Babcock wanted to support Dubas' vision, he'd have just had to put in place the systems that he himself said he was aiming to put in place when he joined the team. Not stretch pass / dump and chase, but instead carry out and carry in, using speed through the neutral zone.

Any coach that asks Rookie Marner to make a "player effort" list is a bit stupid. Stupid isn't fixable.

Coaches do need to be hard on players. How you do that is a challenge

Oh I agree. Heres the quote im referring too

And the game may have been rigged, with a slow start to the season the excuse Dubas needed to make the change

Am I reading this too literally too early on a Monday?

No, I think it does suggest that Dubas was purposely not making any roster changes because he wanted to fire Babcock first.

Which, is true. When Babcock was fired, McKenzie said he didn’t see a trade coming as Dubas wanted to see this roster under Keefe first,

And through the first 14 games, Dubas has been proven right

This thread needs to die now, it’s like someone farted at a party.

Forward and beyond!

One theme that remains true, Hyman seems to be a Keefe favorite already. I think most of us are jumping to conclusions as to the continuous roster shakeup. i doubt this is something that lasts as its not something that will work heading into the post season. need to have fluidity by this point. Keefe currently just finding his own mix right now, kind of feels like we are watching his training camp. 10-4 is a testament as to how much talent is on this team.

Well after implementing Lou’s systems, achieving record point totals and being backed by Shanahan... he probably felt comfortable with his choices.

Babcock? That's a nightmere we finally woke from. Thanks Dubas and Shanahan for shaking us awake.

Babcock sat Matt Martin in the second half of the season and playoffs lol. Komarov is a healthy scratch in NY.

Yes. He did.

I advocated for him to play.

What’s your point?

(Honestly, you do know that I don’t rate Babcock as making a difference with this team right? Do you think you are actually arguing with someone that likes Babcock and figures coaching makes a difference?)

MLSE should honestly sue Babcock for being a fraud and breach of contract. The guy was straight up making decisions for the sole purpose of trying to show up Dubas and his players -- anyone who disagreed with him or for that matter didn't massage his feet. I think apart from the Marner thing he was sort of doing his job the first 2-3 years, but as soon as Dubas replaced Lou, he really amped up the entitled petulant child attitude.

I know, MLSE was both silly to give him 8x6M, and can afford to eat that loss, but it still pisses me off in principle. It says a lot about his horrible character that he felt no need to live up to his end of the bargain, and prioritized his own ego over doing the job he was paid so absurdly handsomely to perform. I know I feel a bit guilty when I slack a bit at my job and then look at my paycheck, and then this motherf***er got 48 million and felt no obligation to live up to it.

Do we know this or is this just speculation?
Speculation, but there are events that make this seem very probable. After the playoffs Dubas did not say if Babcock would be back or not (likely wanted him gone but had to get approval). A week or so later, Dubas says Babcock will be returning (likely had meetings with Shanny and other stakeholders and they wanted Babcock to stay due to 3 straight playoff appearance = money). Chris Johnson has said that people in the organization loved the way the Leafs played Boston in game 5 and obviously thought Babcock was capable of getting them to play like that consistently.

Then there were a lot of cryptic tweets, likes or things said in the media by Babcock and Dubas that pointed towards them not having the same vision.

Then of course you have Keefe, who was being paid a large amount to stay with the Marlies because he has been Dubas' guy since the OHL and it was only a matter of time before he took over with the Leafs.

Yeah, like I don't even understand how that was supposed to work.

Like, let's say all the bad implications of that simply don't exist. Hypothetically, this just doesn't make Marner look bad, or create any animosity or drama in the dressing room, it's all good.

Even then, what is the f***in point? What could that possibly accomplish?

The list was actually a success. The whole point of the list was to light a fire under Kadri's ass when Marner placed his name at the bottom of it. It worked.

Kadri had already played a season for Babcock and was playing an involved two-way game at that point. There was never a huge leap in his game after the list.
