I'm really happy for him. I would expect him to take a final payday if he can, but for some people... work environment means more than the magnitude of the paycheck. I have no idea what happens but there's always a chance the Avs and Drouin find something that works for both parties.Drouin going cash in somewhere if he keeps this up. I imagine hes going to want term and 4M's at minimum at his current pace.
Im gonna blame chris on this. RyJo had surgery, no way for proscouts to know if he can recover.I'm really happy for him. Regardless, Chris MacFarlandKinnon deserves credit. With our cap situation we have no option but to find bargain bin pieces to full in the holes and so far it looks like JD is panning out as well as anyone could have hoped. RyJo on the other hand....I'm still not sure if we should blame MacFarland or the pro-scouts more for this. Probably Chris.
I dont think we can do that midseason and i dont think a few good games can tell us enough. Hes a winger at this point, lets not overthink it.Once Lehky and Wood come back I wouldn't mind trying him at 2C. I know most will say why take a chance in screwing up his game now that he is playing really well but I think it is worth trying. If it doesn't work move him back to W. There is a big difference between playing 2C in Denver and 1C in Montreal.
People might say he is now a W but what if he can handle it? It would be a lot easier to find a W than a 2C. Just find another W that would complement him well and can score goals. Depending who they get at W you could probably go any combinations for the top-2 lines.
If he does well and he doesn't mind sticking at C behind Mack I bet he could easily re-sign for 4-5M to stay in a place where he is doing well in his life. That would be great value for 2C and help our cap so much in the future.
That is not overthinking it. It is looking at a potential in-house solution which helps you solve this season's main issue with the team. Trying him next season means you don't do anything this offseason again towards filling that hole and again we would enter a new season with a major question mark at that position. I don't think it is a big issue giving some reps at 2C once Lehky and Wood are back. If it doesn't work it doesn't. That's all. Go back to status quo.I dont think we can do that midseason and i dont think a few good games can tell us enough. Hes a winger at this point, lets not overthink it.
Literally yesterday the last three posts above yours.Rumor: - 2023-24 Trade Rumors and Free Agency: Season Thread
Francouz is damaged goods. Such a shame because he’s actually a good goalie. Even when he comes back, can’t rely on him staying healthy. Gotta get a new back upforums.hfboards.com

Last September the idea of Drouin at C was discusssd with the assunption of Drouin working out in Colorado. With his recent ascent, has this crept into anyones thoughts?
Yeah, still doubtful but has anyone even started to contemplate the idea?
Apologies. Was going to post it in the Trade thread since this exists in its predecessor. Then pivoted to the JD thread without surveying the landscspe.Literally yesterday the last three posts above yours.
I think others have mentioned it as well in the past week.
Usually I would agree with you but in this case I think it is worth trying as it could fix a couple of huge issues for us. No big deal if it doesn't work. Obviously he would have to be ok with that.Simply say no to Drouin at center.
He is finding his game and becoming a complete player playing wing. Don't want to mess with a good thing, let's hope his growth continues and this is his new normal. Nothing wrong in getting a quality winger out of him. Seek center options elsewhere (trade).
Drouin at center would get caved and bullied. He'd lose all of his confidence and we'd be back to square 1 with him.

I don't believe that. He is not right now at W. He wins a lot of battles right now. He also has the skating.Drouin at center would get caved and bullied. He'd lose all of his confidence and we'd be back to square 1 with him.
Don't force things that have shown to not work. Montreal tried Drouin at centre, it didn't work.I don't believe that. He is not right now at W. He wins a lot of battles right now. He also has the skating.
FTR I am not confident it would work but I just think it is worth a try. Also I have never said to forget about finding a proper 2C and go with Drouin for the playoffs. All I'm saying is to give it a try until the ASG break and see if it could be an in-house solution. I wouldn't try it before Lehky and Wood are back though. I think that would put too much pressure on him and most likely become a failure from the start. If you try it you need to try it with a chance to succeed so he can build confidence from it.
Drouin was tried at 1C in Montreal and in a completely different mental state at the time. At 2C, especially behind Mack, and in a much better mental state it is a completely different situation.Don't force things that have shown to not work. Montreal tried Drouin at centre, it didn't work.
No reason to believe it magically works here. Drouin was drafted as a winger, has played most of his life as a winger. He is a winger.
I mean, you're reaching here. It's the same exact position. It didn't work. Drouin has been showing his worth as a puck hound, backchecking maniac, and set-up man. No reason to all of a sudden ask him to switch to centre and play down low, play support, front of the net, etc.Drouin was tried at 1C in Montreal and in a completely different mental state at the time. Not reaching..they are different situations. Anyway it is just something I would try if he is ok with it.I mean, you're reaching here. It's the same exact position. It didn't work. He is a winger. Keep him at wing.
Not like that derailed his career in the first place.Rumor: - 2023-24 Trade Rumors and Free Agency: Season Thread
