Confirmed with Link: Avs sign Jonathan Drouin (1 year, 825k)

If I had a son in hockey I would rename him Arnason Yip. Generational.

You should name him Blake Comeau and then put one of those Stanley Cup music boxes all the players got in his room, but with this playing on a loop instead.

So on the Avs website, it shows Drouin as #27.

It's time for a round of Who Wore it Best: Vaananen, Leroux, Quincey, Martinsen or Caron.

Bonus Question: Will Drouin do better?

I've been seeing a lot of people with big expectations for Drouin lately. As a Habs fan, I highly recommend you cool it. This is a guy who consistently made some of the worse defensive decisions I have ever seen. He's also a guy who would show you amazing skill and hard work just often enough that you'd want to punch a hole through your screen when you see him go shift after shift doing absolutely nothing.

I'd put the odds at 90% plus that he'll end up as this forum's whipping boy unless Bednar gets sick of him first.

That kinda looks like Tampa Drouin….quick!!!!

Can I be little excited?
He's always been quick. He was our best skating forward a lot of the time, except for Paul Byron.

I'm very interested in seeing how he plays this year, especially if his wrists are healed. I've always considered him as a complimentary forward, but potentially a great one at that. He just can't handle being the first or second guy on a line. But if he's your third string guy, then he'll wow you with his skills. At least I suspect this might happen this year.

He is a boom or bust for sure.

He'll have some pretty stiff competition between Tatar and Ryjo but I have a feeling he won't make it past November anyway. And then he'll be thrown onto one of Bednar's classic cobbled together 3rd lines that he hates using when the injuries pile up.

In addition to his usual nice passing, I thought Drouin looked pretty good defensively in his first pre-season game. A couple standout shifts where he either backchecked or worked hard all the way down low in the D zone as a winger, and was successful at breaking up the play and getting the puck back.

We heard the other day about Bednar talking to Jo about a turnover he made in a practice drill. Sounds like his coaching might already be paying dividends on the details of the game. Hopefully it continues.

Except for the part where he had the 2nd worse xGF% (....10.25%) of any skater on the team. Probably didn't help that our presumptive number 2C also got annihilated 5v5 as well.

But hey, as long as they're connecting on the PP, who cares about 5v5...I guess.

I'll tell you what I don't care about. xGF% stats in preseason from someone who has less chance of saying anything positive about anything ever, than Drouin's grandmother has at winning the Hart trophy.

When they decided to give in and not try to defend the Cup last year they shoulda did a reset and traded Toews for a young 2 C and nore.runs un the future.

Now there is the possibility he walks. Wouldn't surprise me if he has a down season as he regressed last year or possibly gets hurt for the year.

But you did care enough to comment on how well Drouin played defensively (which he didn't) against Vegas' AHL rejects. As if him playing well defensively (which he didn't), would have mattered against that level of competition.

I 100% agree with your first paragraph.

The second paragraph is bananas. Toews is in a contract year which will be the last meaningful contract of his career. He's going to amazing this year if the Avs don't extend him. Some GM is going to do something very stupid for Devon Toews.
