Confirmed with Link: Avs sign Jonathan Drouin (1 year, 825k)

Like I said...he's this years version of Alex Galchenyuk.

Soft as baby sh*t. Won't go in the corners or infront of the net doesn't engage. He's strictly a perimeter player.

I said we'd be lucky for him to get 30 points and that says something if he is skating with Mackinnon and Rantanenmost nights.

I don't think it will be long until Bednar stops playing him and we look for a replacement.

Curious guys, Drouin's stat line isn't good, but how has he looked?
On the Habs, he was lost most nights....has he shown he can stay in the league?

Drouin looked horrible playing with MacKinnon and Rantanen. He never had the puck on his stick, and never did anything to go get it when the team didn't have possession.

In my opinion, he was miscast there. Whoever is playing with MacKinnon and Rantanen should be strong in the corners and in front of the net, which is the antithesis of Droun's game.

Fortunately, he's looked good on his new line with Colton and Wood. Those two are able to do the dirty work down low, creating more time and space for Drouin to work with the puck on his stick.

Flipping Drouin and Tatar has seemed to spark both the third line and the top-6 forwards, actually. Even though Tatar is a skill player, he's good in the areas I mentioned and couldn't seem to get his game going with Colton and Wood.

He can stay in the league. Hes backchecking hard with good skating but very soft on/off the puck. Lack strength in general, so not really all that effective as the third wheel on the first line. Hes been much better on the 3rd line where hes a puck carrying playmaker. He can carry across the neutral zone and get it to two players who play with strength and jam.

JDs been fine. People think that anybody can play on the same line with MacMoose, but it ain't easy.

Drouin's looked good on the 3L and that's probably where he fits best for now. At his price, you can afford to experiment and not put pressure on him . He's one offside call from delivering one of the better assists we'll see all year.

If he can help the third line, its not the worst thing. At least he'd be helping a line and without having bloated point totals from playing next to MacKinnon and/or Rantanen.

His agent probably doesn't like this though.

I still think he should be tried with Mack and one of Nuke or Lehky, but he's adding a dynamic that the third line needs for sure.

Depends, at this point he probably just wants Drouin to succeed in a role, and get a longer contract somewhere.

If he scores 60 points due to playing next to 29/96, do you think he prices himself out of what the Avs would pay?

I don't think that line was ever going to work. Him and Mikko serve the same role, and obviously Drouin pales in comparison on everything other than passing ability. However they're both not great against the puck either.

He definitely prices himself out if Landeskog comes back, at almost anything significant of a cap hit.

If he succeeds to that degree, on the Avs, he will have a decision to make. Does he want to stay in CO for less than he may be worth or risk moving somewhere where he may struggle and lose money in the long run?

I’m happy with him as he’s made some slick passes already between preseason and regular.

Considering he’s coming off being arguably out of the NHL the small sample size has me optimistic.
It looks like he is making an effort to back check. Hes still super soft though, has never learned NHL level physical play.

Dude has had a really rough go of it both on and off the ice. I'm not going to levy judgment on the guy's play just yet, though I was highly skeptical the Moosehead connection was going to pan out, not solely because of Drouin, but because I don't think he complements players like MacKinnon and Rantanen well (maybe he did in Junior with MacKinnon, but not at the NHL level where there's a much bigger defensive responsibility). I certainly WANTED to see it work, but I didn't think it would.

We'll see how it pans out. Tatar also looked pretty bad with Colton and Wood, and now that both Drouin and Tatar have traded places, both lines look better.

Drouin might work with Mack if they had one of Lehk or Nuke on the line. As it is right now, the puck belongs on the stick of Mack or Rants, rightfully so, most of the time. Drouin doesn't do anything without the puck (I think he is trying, but dirty work just isn't in his toolbag).
