Confirmed with Link: Avs sign Jonathan Drouin (1 year, 825k)

Although I like Drouin on the 3rd line with Colton and Wood I would still like to see Drouin and Mack together but with Nuke instead of Mikko. There is nobody to dig/retrieve pucks on a Dru/Mack/Mikko line and he rarely has the puck on his stick to make plays with those guys.

I wonder what king of player was the 3rd man on their line in Juniors. I bet it was a Lehky/Nuke type of players.

agreed , Bednar must know this, I expect to see that sometime down the road. Bednar os just juggling around mind gaming right now.

I fully expect that to be the line in time

Gotta keep that salary down too and not let him get too comfortable yet.

keep.him hungry for the playoffs when it matters

Martin Frk was the third guy on that line in Halifax.

Mostly known for his shot, but he was also a good forechecker, and good two way player for juniors. Not Val or Lehky level (who is) but those are the elements missing from that top line with Drouin and Mikko on it.

He also barely got any time with the puck as Mikko and Nate both like to carry it and make plays. Drouin was basically deferring to them all the time, and ended up with good scoring chances himself as a result, which isn't really his role.

On the third line, he gets to be the one making plays all the time, as Colton and Wood are mostly just shooters.

Forcing Mikko on to that line with Nate and Drouin kind of killed its chances of working. Hopefully they revisit it with Val on it and Mikko with RyJo at some point.

I remember that now. That would explain so of the success Mack and Dru had together. They really need that type player with them. Not a Mikko type.

If the top line isn’t going to work with Drouin, I kind of want to see some games with Tuffte playing on the third line and scratch Drouin.

Drouin provides playmaking on the third line that nobody else will, but Tuffte on the third line would cement that bottom 6 as an absolute bitch to play against.

I still consider Drouin top 6 or bust.

I don't think he's bad I honestly thought he'd manage to get points but I was wrong.

He was good in preseason on PP1 in Rants' spot. Once Rants took his spot back it kinda went downhill.

No one will say it, but really the one player on that third line who isn't really earning his salary yet is RossCo. For 4 million or whatever he makes he should have more points than he has.

Again I'm not worried, it'll come, but its strange to me that a guy making 850k or whatever is being blasted and a guy making 4 million is getting a pass.

Yeah, Drouin is more polarizing because he’s the bigger name. Relative to expectations, Colton has been worst of the bunch on the 3rd line.

Personally, I'm fine with the way Colton has played. He can and probably will play better but I really like the look and feel of that 3rd line whether it's been Tatar or Drouin with them.

For me, it's not always just 'how many points are they putting up / how are they contributing offensively' that makes the difference. They are just not a fun line for other teams to play against. That line comes out and you know that Wood is going to forecheck the crap out of the other team and if our opponent gets possession in their zone - you know they are likely going to take some hits which can cause turnovers and opportunities. In time, Bednar could probably sub-in LOC late in games when he has to shorten his bench to create a nightmare line for the other side. O'Connor has had a fantastic start to the season (SHG notwithstanding) he's been extremely good on the forecheck and playing his butt off.

Having that kind of 'nightmare line' is what this team has been severely lacking for a long, long time as our typical 3rd / 4th line have been too easy to play against over the years as it was mostly made up of the same type of 5'11'' skill-ish player that would provide very little if they didn't produce on the scoreboard.

I want two of them though. I'm not 100% sold on Olof tbh, but maybe that's just how damn good Helm was between those two. I want that back at 5v5, not just special teams.
