Confirmed with Link: Avs sign Jonathan Drouin (1 year, 825k)

So on the Avs website, it shows Drouin as #27.

It's time for a round of Who Wore it Best: Vaananen, Leroux, Quincey, Martinsen or Caron.

Bonus Question: Will Drouin do better?

What, Scott Parker wasn't good enough to make your list?
Or Steve Downie?

Here you go...

I 100% agree with your first paragraph.

The second paragraph is bananas. Toews is in a contract year which will be the last meaningful contract of his career. He's going to amazing this year if the Avs don't extend him. Some GM is going to do something very stupid for Devon Toews.
i think that Byram will get more opportunities especially on the pp this year which might hurt Toews nu.bers somewhat and keep his ask down.. Either way I.wish they moved him.and got a young 2 C and whatever assets.

It isn't the worst thing if we use him as a rental but would.have rather got a young 2C and a young D for.him this.summer.

But you did care enough to comment on how well Drouin played defensively (which he didn't) against Vegas' AHL rejects. As if him playing well defensively (which he didn't), would have mattered against that level of competition.

If you were able to look at things objectively (you can't) you'd see that me caring about Drouin making some good defensive plays (which he did) has nothing to do with my comment toward you, or that I claimed he will continue to play well defensively (I didn't).

What I said to you is I don't care about someone who literally only has negative things to say (you do) throwing out xGF stats in pre-season like they matter (they don't) or disproved the good defensive plays he made (it didn't).

He'd be the est UFA D since Pietrangelo, right?

Unquestionably Downie was the most entertaining to wear that number. I'll never forget the kicked helmet and him wondering why he got a penalty.
I was at that game! Avs @ NYR, St. Patty’s Day 2012.

Best part was, right before the helmet kick, Downie had just come out of the box for another penalty seconds before.

There were opportunities elsewhere. Walsh said that there were "multiple teams with offers on the table and all for more money" while Drouin pondered his future.

He decided it was Colorado or bust.

"He was very motivated to reunite with Nate," Walsh said. "Nate was texting him and calling him several times a day, pushing him to come to Denver and to come together again."

Drouin also examined his surroundings. Avalanche coach Jared Bednar has not only won a Stanley Cup, but is the third-longest tenured coach in the NHL behind the Lightning's Jon Cooper and the Pittsburgh Penguins' Mike Sullivan. Having a coach with the longevity and success Bednar and his assistants have and them wanting Drouin also was welcoming.

"Management is also sensitive to the challenges you have had before and is excited to bring you in too," Walsh said. "Players love to go places where they feel wanted. From July 1, Jonathan felt like Colorado really wanted him. Players in the locker room really wanted him and it gave him a chance to turn things over and get a fresh start somewhere."

"I think since we have a relationship already it was easier, a little easier for me to kind of do some things that I think he should do on and off the ice," MacKinnon said. "That's been a lot easier for a new player. I'm not used to having new players come in that I'm really good friends with. But other than that, I try to make everyone feel welcomed as I can. We have a lot of new faces, so it's definitely going to be important for us to come together quickly."

"When you come in here, you really don't have a choice but to follow that same thing," Bednar said. "That's going to bring out the best in people. I think [Drouin] is a perfect candidate to be able to step in and help us. The first three days of camp, he's been one of the hardest working guys on the ice. He's shown real quickness with an ability to make plays and score goals and play with those top guys."

Good article from our old friend Clark. Drouin opens up quite a bit about some of the stuff he was dealing with.

Mack has went through his own mental issues and growth. Seems like they both get each other and the level of internal pressure both of them put on themselves.

Mack has had success, and broke out. I know Roy probably both helped and hurt with that, but Landeskog was the perfect Captain for Mack too. Just consistent, calm, and hard working.

Remember Staz was pretty tight with Mack too. Say what you will about Casper but he knew what having high expectations felt like with his family and his contract.

All things Mack can impart on Drouin in a more relaxed environment that still has sky high standards.

Really good article by Clark. Glad he's in a much better place mentally now.

For those that were concerned about Drouin's wrist injuries.

"This is the first time in a while Drouin said he didn't spend the offseason rehabbing from wrist surgery before starting his workouts."

"Having confidence in a pair of fully healthy wrists is what has made the beginning of Avs' training camp fruitful for him. Drouin has provided more than enough evidence to show that his wrists are fine. It's the passes he plays during drills or the shots he takes."

"Everything about the way his wrists move is fluid, smooth and uninterrupted -- three traits that have not always been the easiest to attain in a career that has faced setbacks."

depends on how many ppl are in your draft/ how many players are being picked/ scoring system. In general I'd say 8 person draft prob not 12-14 person draft he's good for a late pick. Scoring system favouring goal scoring is not kind to Drouin either.
Yeah thats what I was thinking. I'm in a 12 person league and goals and assists are worth about the same

It's been a while since I was heavily into it, but I'd also say he should be insanely worth his cap hit if you have a salary cap as well lol. He's going to get prime minutes, and a long look up with Mack.

I love the guy for his playing career, but I feel it’s a stretch to say that Roy helped anything when MacK’s development. Patrick leaving was just as instrumental in his growth as Duchene was imo.

Roy bet on him, and played the shit outta the guy regardless of struggles. Drouin got completely different treatment by Cooper I'd say.

Curious guys, Drouin's stat line isn't good, but how has he looked?
On the Habs, he was lost most nights....has he shown he can stay in the league?
