Confirmed with Link: Avs sign Jonathan Drouin (1 year, 825k)

All I understand from this is Jonathan Drouin and Nathan MacKinnon
Long story short , Drouin had other offers on the table from other teams ( longer terms and more money ) he refused because he wanted to play with Nate in Colorado . He told a story from back in Halifax , where MacKinnon was always taking care of him , driving him arround AND waking him up every morning to go to school. When MacKinnon didnt want to go to school a morning , well Drouin wasnt going either. Said that he already have friends on the team , MacKinnon , Girard and Lehkonen and it would make the transition smooter.

Wonder if Bednar doesn’t put them together on a line, both Drouin and MacK will be disappointed because MacK wanted CMac to get Drouin, and Drouin is actually looking forward to playing with MacK

Really, really hope this works out for he and the Avs, but I have doubts.

Without a doubt they will be playing together.

I've said it a few times before. I'm not overly concerned about the production from Drouin. He's been a ~0.55-0.6 PPG guy pretty much every year of his career. No doubt he'll do that here as well playing Top 6 minutes.

Where the big question will lie with Drouin, is whether the effort level away from the puck picks up, whether he's any bit more willing to engage and battle on the ice and whetherhe can actually stay healthy for at least ~80% of a season. The Avs are no doubt banking that Mackinnon will "drag" him into the battle so to speak.

I'm pretty skeptical about it, but at $825k I think it was a good gamble to take. We'll see what happens. If it doesn't work it isn't that big of a deal because adding a Top 6 winger at the trade deadline wouldnt be the most expensive trade to make. Our 2C and 3C situations are the far more pressing issues that really need those guys to perform well.

I can just see Bednar talking to Drouin in training camp:
"There is no free lunch here. You want to play with Mack then you work hard or I send your lazy ass to the 4th line or healthy scratch."
"Oh and by the way...Welcome to the Avs, Jonathan."

I’m sure they can trade a 1st or something for a winger with half salary retained.
