Confirmed with Link: Avs sign Jonathan Drouin (1 year, 825k)

I highly doubt it.

Drouin - Mack - Nuke
Lehky - RyJo - Rants

It will look like that with Nuke and Lehky being interchangeable. Then Bednar will reunite Rants and Mack if they are trailing and need a goal.
This is the Way.

RyJo next to Moose will be a revelation, Preds fans will be calling for Trotz' head by mid-December.

Drouin will have MacK and Nuke clearing space for him to operate. Perfect scenario.

Friedman mentioned in the 32 Thoughts Podcast that years ago MacKinnon pulled him aside telling him to talk up Drouin and that MacKinnon has been talking up Drouin for years. Friedman said some people wondered if Drouin would play again, but that now that he's in Colorado MacKinnon is going to drag him through (in a good way).

So do we like Drouin on PP1 more than JTC?

Actually, not sure..

There are some days I think Mack, Mikko, Nuke, Ryjo, and Cale would be better.

But also some times I think having another slick passer instead of two big net front dudes would be more valuable.

Even then if you're going to build a respectable PP2 unit. Two of those three and Byram would be awesome.

Final conclusion. I don't fkn know lol.

I haven't watched much of Drouin recently, but I'd assume he'd have to be on either half wall on the PP. Those 2 spots are occupied by Mack and Rants.

RyJo is probably a better fit for the bumper position.

Yeah, Drouin's not a "bang in the rebound" kind of player, the bumper position would be a poor fit for him. Put Nuke or RyJo down there instead. He's a distributor first and foremost, so the half wall is his natural position, and that will mean he has to be on PP2. Which is fine, he's not expected to carry the load on the offense.

Makar - MacKinnon - Rantanen - Johansson - Nichushkin

Makar at the top, MacK and Rants on the half wall, RyJo and Nuke in the middle.

Byram - Toews - Drouin - Lehkonen - Colton

Toews at the top, Byram and Drouin at the half walls, Lehks and Colton in the middle.

I think that maximizes the potential of the PP units, you've got everybody taking advantage of their best traits.

Yeah, high slot would work though, or even Mikko in front. Just depends on the team you are playing and how they run it.

If you're going to put Drouin on the second unit you have to give him and Byram something to work with lol. I bet Colton is on the second unit too. He's got a legit one-timer it looks like.

This is a fun conversation lol. Both units look legit.

Can we upgrade the Power Play coach now too?

I think Colton might do best on the right half wall on PP2. He's got a good one timer.

Toews up top
Drouin left half wall
Colton right half wall
Lehky in front
Byram the rover/bumper? Not sure about this one.

Drouin is the best passer on the team, so we’ve got to be able to get him some time with MacK on PP1.

If we had Landy, then it’d be different, but we’ve got to have Drouin-MacK-Mikko-RyJo-Makar as our PP1 starting off and go from there. We would have the perfect balance of two shooters/two passers with Makar as the hybrid.

Not much net front presence in that group tho. Also better hope that we enter the zone with possession because they ain't digging to win it back.

Talent wise tho you are right they may be the most talented 5.

I want Nuke in front of the net screening the goalie on that PP1. Drouin can be the passer on PP2.

And imagine - just imagine for a moment - that the Avs get an 80% Landeskog back for the playoffs.

I'm not predicting nor expecting that. Neither is MacSakic. But . . . well, a guy can dream.

Jonathan Drouin, Colorado Avalanche

Contract: $825,000 x one year

Colorado is the perfect destination for Jonathan Drouin to resurrect his career. Drouin’s always flashed tons of skill, but he was bogged down with injuries, illness and the massive weight of expectations, playing in his hometown province for the Canadiens.

It was a struggle in Montreal the last few years, but we’re still talking about a player who scored 49 points in 92 games over the last two seasons, and he did so without high-end linemates. Drouin has the puck skills, playmaking vision and creativity to mesh in with Colorado’s high-octane top-six.

There’s also, of course, the Nathan MacKinnon connection. The two won a Memorial Cup together playing for the Halifax Mooseheads and could rekindle that chemistry on the top line. A big bump in linemate quality with the Avs could unlock a breakout season from Drouin. There’s zero downside risk if the fit doesn’t pan out since his dirt-cheap $825,000 cap hit would be buriable.

Very curious to see how they utilize him over the course of the year.

I think theres a discussion for him to play on the first PP unit. With RyJo almost assuredly part of the 1st unit as the bumper/creash crasher, it makes more sense to use Drouin as the down low guy. His passing would be ideal for hitting guys either cross crease or in the slot.

To me, it doesnt make sense to run both Nuke and RyJo on the same unit.
