And then you add Red Wings signing Husso for 4,7mil and Toronto Murray trade..

How is this not a good trade? Win or lose.. I am happy.

Goaltender market is very challenging right now.

I mean, I don't have issues with the trade and I think the contract is a tad rich but nothing too bad. But I wonder is Samsonov would had been a better target ability, asset and money-wise. But that's the only option I wonder about, it's kinda clear that goalie market is crazy at this moment and Sakic did well.

Depends. Do we help fuel Samsonov nose beer habit? :sarcasm:

Impossible to know. BUT, we do have evidence that no other GM needing a goalie thought he was a better option.

Upto him now to show New York they were wrong. He likely proves them right #FailHardForBedard

I don't think NYR made the wrong move, Shesty is a hell of goaltender and Georgiev isn't suited to be a solid backup. Like I said, Georgiev could win the Vezina and the Rangers still did well with a trade here.
May their use of our picks they received in the deal be a disaster for them. May they go another 50+ years without a Cup. May the goalie they traded win the Vezina and the Cup with his new team. Multiple times.

Have to go back to Fuhr in a different era to find a Cup winning goalie with a worse playoffs.
Kuemper was really good during the regular season, but had a horror showing at the playoffs. Looking at the numbers, it's absolutely fair to say that the Avs won the cup despite their goaltending. That doesn't happen very often. I doubt we can skate a team as good next season, but I also doubt Georgiev & Frankie will be as bad as Kuemper and Frankie were during this run. Grubauer was better than Kuemper was during his runs.

Yeah I don’t think next year’s team will be as good as this one… sadly happens in the cup world.

Gonna have to agree with Balthazar.

I don't think Kuemper gets enough credit. Did he let in soft goals? YES! Did he also play well when needed specifically in games #4 and #6 ? Yes, again.

People seem to want to globalize stats and that can give a 'big-picture' kind of thing over an 82 game season but when it counted most in Game #6 with all the pressure on his shoulders, against the best goaltender in the league, he made the stops he needed to make and didn't let in a bad goal for TB to tie it and we won the frikkin' Cup!!!

Would Grubauer have made the same saves in that series ? Would he have been better or worse? I think that's hard to say with any level of certainty but based on the 2020-21 playoffs, I tend to think maybe not.

I mean what if a goalie let's in 75 goals on 75 shots in Games #1 of a playoff year and then goes on to post 16 straight shutouts to win the Cup. Does that guy stink? (Only binnington can do something like that by the way)

In a vacuum, would I rather have Kuemper or Georgiev (or anyone else for that matter from the goalie market of this offseason)? Kuemper. But his performance doesn't justify the contract he's about to get. Thus, it's easy for us to tell ourselves how bad he was in the playoffs and how Georgiev can't be worse. It's half truth, half coping. We were a much better team this season vs last season, and I think we could've won with Grubauer.

Avs just won the Cup with some of the worst goaltending of the last 30 years. They'd have won with Grubi last year. If Georgiev plays that well, goaltending won't be the issue.

I don't agree with that. Bad as Kuemper was in stretches, he never gave up a goal that was anywhere NEAR this bad.

That one still sends me into a rage.

Idk… he had a few real stinkers and gave up more soft goals per game than Grubi did. Kuemper really sucked in these playoffs.
Exactly. I was mostly thinking it's Kuemper vs the Avalanche in playoffs because our team otherwise was way better than anyone else this season.

We only lose if Kuemper has total stinker
