Kuemper seemed like a great goalie when watching Wilds, Georgiev with Rangers not so much.
This looks more like a risky move, Kuemper was solid when needed.
Georgiev is undoubtably a downgrade from Kuemper, but the Avalanche are banking on the fact goalies have generally thrived in their system the last few seasons. Look at Grubauer in 2021 vs 2022. Even Kuemper was coming off a down season (.907) before having a career season in 2022.
As others have said, a lot of the sting of losing Kuemper is taken away by how bad he was in the post-season. Not sure if it was related to the eye injury or it was just a tough stretch, but Colorado won a lot of playoff games in spite of him.
