I thought there was a hand pass on the faceoff and was looking for a call.
Turned out for the best though.

Saw Jets fans and Maurice weeping over a none call there on Tavares for the hook.
I don't see it.
My buddy said same thing. But when I got home and watched the highlights you could see the Jets player mishandled the puck off his stick after and kinda passed it back to Rielly who laid out the perfect feed. But what a shot!!!!!! Matty has a rifle. and deadly accuracy too.
I think he will get more consistent in his domination of games as he gets more game experience. Last night he was dominant. Against Drai he flat out got beat by Drai on that night.
JT getting toughest matchups every night now. He is in tough every night. But he was a top player against Isles. But Willy is playing much better. You can tell JT's dogged forecheck style is giving Willy motivation to up his game. I can't see Kerfoot on this line much longer. Quite frankly I would rather see Engval get moved up there. Kerfoot is fast but really does not do much else but bring speed.

Every night before they go to sleep, NHL goalies check in the closet and under the bed for Auston Matthews.

Three goals so far this season with our goalie pulled, he's been our best player by a mile this season and is now regularly putting the team on his back. His two way game has been steadily improving over the last two months and he's been a 1000x more consistent in his effort and taking over games. Absolutely playing like a top5 player in hockey right now and our clear MVP so far.

It'll be insane if he wins the Rocket despite spotting the rest of the league a quarter season head start. If Keefe was here from the start he may very well have hit 60+.

Agree with you but please remember he is getting the other teams #2 centre. And even against Drai recently he got dominated. So lets just hope he continues gaining confidence and can continue to come up big when the games get bigger and ice gets smaller. I think he will but he is only 22 and still learning.

Sometimes. People think hockey is like a video game, where X line goes against X line and that remains until next stoppage.

QOC gets a lot more mixed up than that, and it usually ends up pretty negligible for players like this. Sometimes Leafs get to choose and they want Tavares on the hard matchup. Sometimes opponents get to choose and they want Tavares on the hard matchup. Sometimes Leaf get to choose and they want Matthews on the hard matchup. Sometimes opponents get to choose and they want Matthews on the hard matchup. Sometimes the opponent's 2nd line is trash. Sometimes it's elite. Sometimes Matthews will face a hard shutdown line over a top scoring line, which isn't necessarily easier. Sometimes he faces their best defensemen instead. Sometimes he's double teamed. A ton of times, lines change on the fly, or matchups are based on game situations. Opponents don't just forget Matthews exists. They know what he can do. He is prime #1 target for defending, and they do everything they can to stop him.

Anyone notice he was basically being doubled up on everytime he touched the puck on the PP?

In theory, Tavares or Nylander should be wide open everytime the puck is on Auston's side.

I have a feeling the PP is going to win us a lot of games once JT heats up.

He’s basically caught the leading goal scorer. Had he stayed healthy previously he would have been in the running for the Rocket trophy. Now he definitely could win it this year. Good a chance as anyone at least ;)

JT has hit so many goal posts recently that its bordering on crazy now. He should have maybe 5 to 7 goals more. He’s playing good but the puck luck is gone ha. I agree

Last night was something to behold. He was incredible. Every time he touched the puck he was dangerous. He was even back checking and lifting sticks defensively, really playing well all over the ice.

It's impressive to watch efforts like that. To think how some players can have games where they are so far ahead of the opposition (and a good opposition with several really good players) is mind boggling to me. This is the highest level. There are a ton of really good players... but when you see an effort like last night it's like "how is this possible?"

For me he's easily the Leafs MVP this season. It's a shame the Hart has weird standards, because he should be up for it if he keeps this play up
What do you mean by weird standards? Why do you think he won't be up for it if he keeps this up?

It will be hard to pass Mackinnon and Mcdavid, but if Matthews keeps this up for the rest of the season, I don't see any reason why he won't be top 3 in voting.

If Matthews' can keep this up and the Leafs can climb above Boston/Tampa for the division, I can see him getting serious MVP consideration.
Oh for sure. It is scary to think how good this kid can become.

Thats what I keep thinking....this guy hasnt even hit his best. I still think he has another level. I actually think he can be number 2 in the league and potentially sniff mcdavid at one point.

I will not rule that out. He is just so young right now.

Yup, "going against other teams top lines" doesn't always mean it's the hardest line to produce against, in fact it's almost never the case.

Matthews has been playing like a beast lately. Just an offensive work horse. He might be the best goal scorer in the league right now. I’m surprised he hasn’t gotten another hat trick, but I’ll take the 2 goal games lol

Auston Ovechkin Matthews has 27 points (17 goals) in 22 games since Keefe took over, a 63 goal, 101 point pace over 82 games.

The Rocket will belong to him for a long time as long as Keefe is the coach.

He's been amazing but i dont think theres a single player on the planet more valuable to his team than McDavid. Edmonton would likely finish dead last without him, i think we'd still be a bubble playoff team without Matthews. He's been our MVP but league wide, if we compare the impact a player has had on his team, the Hart belongs to McDavid, i put Mackinnon second and then possibly Matthews at 3rd.
