Yes that's one way to put it.
I was responding the greatest of all time scorers claim coming from many ( not all) leafers and Torinto based talking heads .
Until he scores like an elite scorer in the play offs biggest games .....he is not in the same category as OV , Stamps, McDavid, Draisaitl, and so on.
Plays off results matter when you are talking about GOATS.
I don’t disagree. I remember it feeling kind of hollow to me after Matthews won the Hart/Lindsay/Rocket back in 2022. I thought I was going to be happier about it, but I wasn’t because the season ultimately ended in another first round playoff exit. The personal awards and statistics will become a lot more meaningful when/if the team starts producing tangible results in the post-season.

Wouldn't be surprised if Matthew sneaks in and steals the Hart .
Way too far back for the heart and his team isn’t at the top of the standings. When he won the ted Lindsey he was pacing within15 points of mcjesus with 60 goals and a team that was humming. Not the same this year

Nah he’s not producing nearly enough points this year for that. Just happy to see the phenomenal goal scoring season

Yeah I don’t see it either. Not a win anyway. I do think there is a chance he will be a finalist, but it doesn’t seem like his year to win.

I think Matthews overall value is close to the other 3 this year but the press will understandably not overlook a 30-40 point gap in the Hart voting. 70 goals and a 10-15 goal lead over the next highest scorer for a player as well rounded as Matthews would be remarkable though, and probably looked back on more favourably in the future.

If he gets to 70 I think he’ll make it interesting.

Probably going to be one of the most even ballots in recent history. It feels like there’s usually a guy, or maybe two guys who run away with it by the end of the year. I think we’ll see all four of them get a handful of 1st place votes.

Matthews deserves it over them. Goals are way more exciting and important.

If we’re giving it to someone who deserves it I think it would be MacKinnon. Of all the candidates he is closest in points to Kuch, closest in goals to Matthews and plays solid defensively. Not to mention hes “owed” one.

MacKinnon would have my vote this year.

With that said, if Matthews hits 70 while garnering some Selke buzz (won’t win and dont @ me I’m not the one saying it) it becomes really interesting.

That is fair. I am honestly not impressed with a 30 goal scorer. I could not care less about secondary assists.

The problem is, with the season McDavid Makinnon and Kucherov are having they may split votes. Matthews is the only one doing something the rest of them are not.

yeah and someone scoring 70+ goals has only been done 14 times in the history of the NHL and the last time was 1992-1993. Over 30 years ago.

McDavid has 153 points last season and it has been done over 25 times.

If Matthews get 70, I can't see how he doesn't get it based on scoring goals is hard and it hasn't been done in over 3 decades.
