gene principe has grown on me over the years lol. he's their version of john garrett. he's definitely a bit off, but he's a kooky weirdo, not a malicious moron.
his wife is a bottom-2 city councillor though and do not look up the photoshoot they did a couple years ago for a local magazine... other than that, seems like a decent dude, haha.
kinda funny that he thinks carolina is on a whole different tier from the rest of those teams
With Carolina, they seem to be a team that is always going to push for a longer runway, at the expense of going for it. Now, they have let ufas walk, like 3 top 4 Dmen in Pesce, Skjei, Hamilton, along with Terravinen and Ferland. Carolina loves to get max value for dollar. So, they don't like giving out the "retirement" contract. They extended a 27 year old Aho, whereas the likes of Skjei/Pesce were 30 at the time they let them walk. Hamilton was 28, but they didn't want to blow the D payscale on him. Not too surprised they moved off Rant after they couldn't get a deal with him, but man, they could have kicked this can down the road a year as Necas was still a year out of UFA.

watched the Sabres/Oilers game because I was bored. man... it sucks to see how Podkolzin fails to even make his mark after being gifted a Hart candidate Draisaitl as his linemate. Played less than 10 mins, and a crucial mistake that lead to a Bouchard turnover. After being a Pod fan all these years, probably because I saw him drafted at Rogers, I have to concede, one of the worst recent misses drafting him instead of the obvious Boldy, right behind Juolevi over Tkachuk.
POD always had the question mark of offensive upside. Always nervous about that pick at the time. One thing if he was a C and ultimately becomes like Malhottra where there is limited offense.
Marty Biron of TSN has weighed in on the Canucks playoff chances. His message basically "Stick a fork in them, they're done'.
I'm beginning to think the Canuck front office might have concluded behind closed doors, that this was likely to be a 're-set' year. They probably just didn't figure a lot of the changes would happen 'mid-season'.
And I see with all the flurry of changes, Vancouver is now listed as the 7th youngest team in the NHL. And I suspect they'll get even younger, once guys like like Wilander, Lekkerimaki and Raty are everyday players.
Next four games will probably either prove or dis-prove Brion's assessment, at least for awhile.

its a valiant effort fighting through all these key injuries (and MIA talent) with a roster fitting of a bubble team, it could go either way these last 20 games. I'd rather they make the playoffs than tank the rest of the way though. This team can upset in the first round.
Tanking at this stage does nothing really in terms of the draft. I'd rather see how they stack up so that management can see the flaws compared to Winnipeg (most likely opponent if they do make it in).

I agree. Playoffs or bust. They won't fall offbadly enough to get a top 10 pick, the difference between picking 14th and 1 picking 17th is meh. They will trade the pick anyway if they want to get better.
If they don't make the playoffs questions week be and of management and is burning a year with bad decisions and delayed decisions.

like what is he really not enjoying over here? is it Tocchet's system? is EP really grinding his gears so much??? is it our liberal climate? like for reals, what is so freakin oppressive for him that he needs a mental reset? The fanbase loves him, the press did not really get on his case....this is out of left field.
It’s interesting for sure. But many Canuck players have, at times, looked like they’d rather be any other place than playing together. Many veteran players have come through this dressing room and looked like they couldn’t wait to get out. Maybe one day we’ll get the story.

Give it another season or so. He does have a history of wearing out his welcome with every team he's been on, and much as it'd be nice if he's grown as a person...
J.T.'s contract in New York won't age well.....you can almost guarantee it. I'm glad that he's 'enjoying hockey again'.
But he said basically the same thing when he arrived in Vancouver and signed that big-ticket extension. I realize it's crying over spilt milk, but they guy they should have extended instead was Horvat.
Is he as dynamic a player as Miller? No. But he was a younger center; a rock-star in the dressing-room; the team captain, and desperately wanted to stay a Canuck.
In retrospect, he'd have been a far better bet for the team moving forward.
