Is Matthews a 40 or 50 goal scorer without Marner? Every goal I see is a perfect set up from Marner or a 3on3 OT or a PP goal. Is there a site that breaks down goals by even strength and even farther by primary assist producer? Don't get me wrong, I do beleive Matthews is the current top goal scorer in the league and has a wicked shot.

He's a 40 goal scorer with 4th line players on his wings. He's a 50 goal scorer with a respectable top 6 winger.
It's getting tougher, he still needs 15 goals in 18 games, but he wasn't that long ago he had 10 goals in a 5 game stretch.
Not having Marner will make things tougher though.

He came 2nd in the league in scoring while taking almost no shifts with Marner at 5v5 or playing with him on the PP at 19 (Babcock split the PP in two, so he didn't even get true PP1 time). To argue his scoring is primarily related to Marner just ignores his career. He didn't start playing with Marner a ton until year 4. Year 3 was the first year he got PP time with him. Matthews as a rookie had primarily a rookie Hyman on his wing, and either a rookie Nylander or a rookie Connor Brown, and the only player to outscore him that year was Crosby.

Ok so Ive watched about the last 30 games of the leafs. And about 40 games last year same prior and playoffs.
What I gather is Auston Mathews is a Phil Kessel 2.0 in the sense he goes in streaks of brilliance and then just totally disappears for 10-20 games in a row.
Leafs should get rid of this guy. You cant have this type of player on your roster and go anywhere.
Add in their horrific Defense. This team is gone in 6 in the first round. They are not built for playoffs.

I've gone from "Matthews might score 70" to "Sam Reinhart might win the Rocket" in short order.
Obviously a bit facetious since 7 goals is still a very big gap with only 14 games left but AM needs to pick it up a bit.

You really didn't have to do all this research to tell us his linemates touch the puck too.
It's hard to score a goal without your linemates touching the puck even if you tried to.
Without doing any research I could have told you that his linemates assisted on most of his goals - it's really not that hard to figure out. The NHL hands out assists pretty freely and of course the players on the ice with you are going to be more likely to get the assist as opposed to players on the bench.

Given how silent he's been lately relative to the huge outbursts earlier in the season I'm somewhat surprised Matthews hasn't had a goal drought longer than four games (twice) this season. A couple of three game goalless stretches there, too.
For comparison Ovi had one seven game goalless stretch in his 65-goal season but other than that he went two games in a row without a goal max.
Now pacing for 68-33—101 points (both rounded down) in 81 games.

Well he is always playing with either Marner or Nylander and mostly Marner, so this is not really surprising.
But think of how insane the assertion that he would only be a 40-50 goal scorer without Marner is… Matthews has more goals than Marner has assists, wouldn’t it make more sense to say Marner benefits more from Matthews than the other way around? Obviously both benefit from each other, even McDavid scores more points with Draisaitl than without. Man this site will go to no ends to discredit the guy, it’s wild.
This isn’t a Thornton and Cheechoo situation where Thornton had 96 assists and 71 primary to Cheechoo’s 56 goals, obviously Cheechoo doesn’t score close to that much without Thornton. Plus no one has gone on about what MacKinnon would be producing without Rantanen and Makar or top of the league powerplay time…

Seems like he's really cooled off. May not get 70 this year. But if he's saving his goals for the playoffs then the trade off is worth it.
I said this a few weeks ago now, 70 is not happening. Best we could hope for is 65 at this point.
He ate a hot dog buffet out of the Stanley Cup, that’s basically all you need to know.
