50 in 50 is not only cool milestone with round numbers but also linked to history when the regular season schedule was exactly 50 games and Maurice Richard was the first one to score 50 goals a season. Richard didn't have the luxury of calling in sick for a game and ending up scoring 50 goals in 51 team games but 50 personal games. That's why the official record is what it is. 50 in 50 is still very remarkable in any stretch, it just isn't exactly the same as from the team's game 1 on.

Another thing is whether records from almost 80 years ago should still be referred to and celebrated, as it is with records from the 1920s which are hardly even mentioned nowadays. If we continue like that, will Gretzky's records be totally obsolete in 20-30 years?
the unofficial list is still fairly small anyways. in the end who cares if it was done in 50 player games or 50 team games. in the end its the same thing

That’s what the atypical PF is, a fighter, heavy hitter and can score. It’s never changed over the years, there is not many left in the league.
So do you consider Ovechkin a power forward? Kreider?

Or is BT the only power forward left in the league according to your new rules?

And I'm not sure you know what atypical means.

Using your weighting system:

Joe Thornton 2005 (29-96-125) = 72.44
Jonathan Cheechoo 2005 (56-37-93) = 69.75

We can safely conclude that any model that says Cheechoo is 96% of Joe Thornton is a bad model.

That’s not a good model. Secondary assists are nowhere close to goals though in a general sense

Matthews leads the league in goal scoring and same trolls are leaving grinch style comments during holidays. Can you imagine how pathetic their lives are lmao. He scores a bunch of goals, does it matter if he plays for San Jose, New Jersey or Toronto. Cherish it, he is a fun hockey player.

Agreed in general, but they aren't all created equal. The average secondary assist by Kucherov is often a bigger factor in creating the goal than the guy who is in the right place at the right time to score it. Not always the case, but definitely happens with Kucherov more than anyone I've ever seen, where the key play on the goal was the second assist.
Anyone trying to pretend that assists are luck has an agenda. Guys like Marner, Kucherov, McKinnon, Panarin etc are constantly putting the puck where it needs to be to end up in the back of the net. It's not an accident.

Take Maroon as an example. When his goal scoring jumps from a career high of 11 goals to 27 when playing with McDavid and back down to 11 after he left Edmonton are we really saying those 27 goals were more important than McDavid set up? McDavid created those goals that Maroon would never have got without McDavid.

There's a reason we talk a lot about "line drivers" these days. They aren't always the goal scorer.

IF the nhl goes to 100 games season, people will care what player do during the first 82 games of the season for a while, they will also care about what player do in their first 82 games they play during the longer season but the different will feel obvious and evident for a while.

Richard had to do it in the season first 50 games, if someone beat 92 goals playing only 80 games but taking 95 season game to do it it will be brought up, it is not exactly the same thing.

Same for 50 consecutive games if there a summer break inbetween them versus what Matthews did or the first 50 games played versus the 50 best stretch game in a season, etc.... all have some small difference.

Has for caring, obviously never any reason to ever care what unknown adults pushing pucks in net do or not.

Yeah dont care, 50 goals in 50 games is the same thing if its in 50 team games or player games.
this has happened what? once since Lemieux in the 90s? I guess because a Leaf did it, it's no big deal. can only assume if a player did this on any other team he would get praised

Anyone know if you can sort goal totals by age? Just curious to search the historical goal scoring machines to see how many they had by what age?

Merry Christmas

Your definition of a power forward is this.

BT, Tom Wilson, Jamie Benn, those type of players
Merry Christmas

Then list Benn as an example and he has fought less than M. Tkachuk in the last two years and barely outhit him... yet you say M. Tkachuk isn't a power forward...

Makes perfect sense.

Brady Tkachuk is one of the most overrated players in the league by the way.

Merry Christmas.

Ahh my bad, I guess Jamie Benn is now aging out, if not fighting much anymore. Still not putting MT in there, he’s more in the pest style.
Merry Christmas, enjoy your family.
