a handful of Ottawa fans were creaming in the Stutzle v Matthews thread when Stutlzle had a few more points than him early on this season...now Matthews has almost as many goals a little Timmy has points and suddenly I don't see that thread get bumped every day anymore.(I like Stu a lot btw).

Why does it matter if he scores 50 in 50 when he gets outscored by 2 of his own teammates in the playoffs, including a defenseman? Great player but he needs to start showing up in the playoffs. No one cares about what he does against columbus in december.

41st highest goals per game played in league history in playoffs. Yes it’s lower than his regular season pace but let’s not be ridiculous and pretend he doesn’t score in the playoffs.

Also... he'd have 2 more 50 goal seasons without COVID, I don't know if it is fair to hold it against him, but I guess all that matters is hitting the number...

I think without Covid and if he wasn't injured for the entire season last year, you're looking at another 40+ goals...

Matthews' pace right now is insane, it is the longevity that will be hard to replicate from Ovi.

It’s too bad for the two injury shortened seasons where he was pacing for 40+ but ran out of runway. Assuming he gets there this year, he would have been at 8 forty goal seasons by 26 years old. This would place him with 7th most 40 goal seasons all time, all by age 26 and only 5 off the all time leader.

Right now I am curious to see if he can hit 500 by age 30.

I guess he might still have a chance at the best goal scorer ever title but he'll have to string together a few Rockets and probably 60 goal seasons to be in the discussion (in addition to the longevity stats). A third Rocket before turning 27 would be vital as goal scorers have historically tended to have peaked by then. Just a single 50 goal season thus far looks really weak comparatively, but should he get 60+ this season that'd fix it up considerably as there's not a single player with two or more 60 goal seasons who didn't play in the 1980s.

Really strong season in terms of goals for him thus far. Just wondering how he's so atrocious as a playmaker.

I don't think he is, he just doesn't need to be a playmaker because Marner exists.

Also let's put an asterisk beside the only 1 50 goal season talk, It's technically true but 2 of though seasons were cut short by Covid.

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest without Covid he scores 3 more in 12 extra games in 19-20.

Or 9 more in 26 extra games in 20-21.

1) The leafs have owned you every single time they have ever played in the playoffs.

2) The sens can’t even make the playoffs. Do you understand that you need to make the playoffs to have a chance of winning? Your group has gone what, 8 years in a row without it?

3) Stutzle is a good player, but he will never be considered in the same tier as Auston Matthews. Stutzle will never win a single major individual award in his career. He is almost as good as William Nylander. One day he may get there.
