In the last decade...

In terms of goals...

OV has 100+ over everyone easily. (Let's get THAT straight.)

But Tavares is 3rd in goals.

In the decades before,... THE 3rd spot in goals per decade was...

Hossa
Shanahan
Goulet
Dionne
Howe
Geoffrion

And before that Max Bentley, Busher Jackson and Cy Denneny.

Yeah, Tavares ****'n belongs!

Shutt was a well rounded player who could skate, pass, check and offcourse score goals . He had a great shot and a fine touch in front of the net. He scored 30 goals or more 9 times in his career and held the left wingers record for most goals in one season for a long time till Lucky Luke Robitaille surpassed him in the mid 90s.

A big game player who scored alot of timely playoff goals for tne powerhouse habs teams that won 5 cups

Did Kasatonov ever play LD?

I know Kasatonov played the right side alongside Fetisov. But I think it should be pretty straightforward for a LHS to play on the left side.

I checked out a playoff game for the 1994 Blues and Kasatonov took some shifts on both sides. He played the left side when he was out with Housley or #28.

I like the skill set combination that Kasatonov and Gonchar bring. Kasatonov was very physical and strong down low and can carry the load there while Gonchar uses his stick and positioning on defence. And they both have the skill and ability to play the free-flowing five man game.

Most LD play on the right because the team has too many LD rather than them being better on that side.

Remember.

Shutt was Bowman"s whipping boy (not my phrase).

He showed up out of shape and unwilling to do the hard work.

SEVERAL Habs have commented on this.

Shutt needs a taskmaster hard*** coach.

Shutt is pretty good value here, but you’re correct in saying he’s the type of guy that needs a specific coach. I don’t think he would have been a fit on my Hap Day-lead club.

Bowman was the driving force behind shutt bringing shutts game and the candieans team game to a higher level.

Bowman said alot of what I rephrase when I wrote my description of shutts game.

If he was a whipping boy he was a whipping boy who performed like a professional

Hap Day DEMANDS checking and defensive low-risk positioning.

But when asked about Pratt, that buzzsaw of a risky dman rusher he was, Day said: when you got a talent like that, you just let it go.

Tavares has had a fine career, but is anyone else a little disappointed in how it’s turned out? I’m not saying he is a bust (or a bad pick), because he isn’t- but I thought he would have some more career accomplishments by now.

Compared to the hype around him coming in I can see that, and as I said in my post the big ? for him right now is can he step it up in the playoffs?

He's on a pretty talented team in Toronto and should get the chance to show what he's got.. 36 games in his career so far is just too little to know yet and he's been pretty mixed.

That being said, here is a guy who has:

-Good size at 6-1 and 210lbs
- 2 time Hart finalist '12-13 and '14-15 / 1st Team All Star at center in '14-15
-a 7 year VsX of 82.7
-3 top 5 in goals and 4 top 10 in goals
-2 top 10s in assists
-2 top 10s in points

I don't think he's a defensive stalwart by any means but he's been pretty decent and has a handful of Selke votes in his career (as well as outperforming his off ice comparables at ES over his career).

Outside some players coming up who have less longevity than we normally like to see here, there aren't many guys left with a resume like that who don't have some pretty noticeable flaws to go with it.

A lot of the time these mid-round picks are about filling special teams needs, but I'm going to do the opposite.
I don't want to add any more defensemen to my power play, but I don't want to fill my bottom pair with goons either. I'd like a guy who'll ensure I'm getting good puck movement on every pair.

Kris Letang, I think offers me that, and I don't think I need to give him much if any power play time to take full advantage of his offensive abilities.

He's surprisingly meh on the PP when you look at the numbers but he sure can move the puck around at ES.

I have a list for @rmartin65 but I see he's still online

No idea why it said that; I called it a day shortly after the Pens game ended.

Thanks for making my pick.

I'm definitely not trashing your pick; I think the argument can be made for him at 2C at this point.

But based on expectations/talent level, I think what you listed is a disappointment. Like I said, not a bust, not even not worthy of being the number 1 pick in his draft year, but just not what I expected or was hoping for as a hockey fan.

His goal record is nice (especially leading in ES goals twice!), but his assist/total point totals are a let down. And, I know you didn't make the claim that he is a dominant defensive player or anything, but since you brought up his Selke votes- that is a pretty weak voting record. Outside of a respectable 8th place finish in 2017, he has received 1 third place vote in 2012, 1 second place vote in 2013, 1 fifth place vote in 2015, 1 fifth place vote in 2018, and 2 fourth place votes in 2019. To me, that sounds like a local writer/fan of the player throwing a vote his way year after year.

Again, though- definitely not a bad pick here. My disappointment is in regards to how is career shook out, not where he went in the ATD. While I (and I think most of the hockey world) was expecting a top 3-5 center... just eyeballing it, he is, what... in the 5-10 range?

My first flirtation with the clock- I honestly didn't think it would get back around to me so quickly.

I think we could help Patrice Bergeron feel at home by placing alongside him a SuperPest teammate who has a will-to-win in the big moments, a Playoff Pedigree, and a proven ability to give at least as good as he gets from anyone.

Damn.

F....

My next pick locked and loaded and smuggly so.

Damn. I am rocked.

I am sooooo lucky he ain't in my conference.

Claude Lemieux is.a F***ING NIGHTMARE! Unless he is on your team, in which case you just smirk and shrug.

Conn Smythe famously posited: who would you go into an alley with? He chose Clancy & Cook. I would choose Tikkanen & Lemieux. You ain't leaving unscathed.
