I have been FED UP a couple of times.
But this place kept calling me back.

Everyone has a bad day and "issues" with this or that from time to time.

Hopefully, tomorrow is another day, a brighter day. If we in the ATD and HOH community are part of your new day, great. If not, take care and best wishes.

Really good pick with Marshall. I like that he can play LW at even strength and C on the PK. Which is nice because Backstrom probably shouldn't kill penalties.

Oh? Is there a reason why? Did he not like killing penalties? (hill skillset seems well suited)

Basically, Toe Blake had guys like Don Marshall he used almost as PK specialists. His better even strength players, and that includes Beliveau, Richard, and Backstrom, almost never killed penalties.

If you want stats, based on overpass's spreadsheet, Backstrom killed 9% of his team's penalties over the course of his career. That's... really low. (Just an easy comparison - Gilbert Perreault killed 12% of his team's penalties).

hmm good looking out.

I am assuming estimated shorthanded time is based on goals against right? A couple bloggers years ago had ice time estimate methods that seemed pretty promising, I always wanted to continue that work.

Yes, it is based on goals for and goals against.

Team Canada would like to welcome, from Montreal, Québec, Vincent Damphousse.

For those that are interested, an updated bio of Syl Apps

one_apps08.jpg

"Syl Apps, the Maple Leafs' brilliant center, is a three-way player- on the attack, setting up plays and scoring. On defense, Apps is a remarkable back checker."

I feel like it's Sophie's choice every pick in this stage of the draft...

I'm going to take a guy that hasn't been drafted this low in a while (or maybe ever, I stopped looking at like 2016). I'm not sure what his actual special teams role was back during his era but the way he is described makes him sound like can contribute on either of the second units. He'll definitely be a solid partner for Schoenfeld on the bottom pair.

Welcome to Portland Ott Heller (D)!

He was my #3 defenseman last year. Amazing the difference between a 24 and a 40 team draft.

The Ottawa Senators select Sergei Kapustin, LW.

scale_2400

One of the great Soviet goal-scorers from the strongest period in the history of Soviet hockey, Kapustin was an incredible skater and also played with a physical edge. In 98 games for the Soviet national team at the World Championships, Olympic Games, and Canada Cups from 1974 to 1983, Kapustin scored 66 goals and 106 points in 98 games.

«На рану махнул рукой. Началось заражение крови, врачи бессильны...» Нелепая смерть семикратного чемпиона мира

— Капустин обладал огромной физической силой и здоровьем, — вспоминал партнер форварда по тройке «Крыльев Советов» Сергей Котов. — Это был хоккеист от бога, наделенный невероятным чувством гола и умением сделать игру в самые критические для команды моменты.

"Kapustin had great physical strength and health," recalled the striker's partner in the three Wings of the Soviets Sergey Kotov. "He was a hockey player from God, endowed with an incredible sense of goal and the ability to make the game in the most critical moments for the team."

Going with John Tavares, C
john-tavares.jpg

The only thing he's missing on his resume is a good opportunity in the playoffs.. but for my team he's sheltered on the 3rd line where his even strength goalscoring looks pretty good. As of 2020 he has enough seasons in to have a VsX 7 year of 82.7.

The picture makes it look like he's really impressed with Overpass's Russian 5, and slightly aprehensive about facing them.

Tavares has had a fine career, but is anyone else a little disappointed in how it’s turned out? I’m not saying he is a bust (or a bad pick), because he isn’t- but I thought he would have some more career accomplishments by now.

I agree with you - I thought he'd end up more on the Stamkos level at least

C, Joe Nieuwendyk

img-270895-f.jpg

- 1999 Conn Smythe Trophy winner
- Won 3 Stanley Cups on 3 separate clubs
- Captained the Flames for 4 years, was an alternate in Dallas for 7 years
- Goal finishes of 5, 5, 7, 7, 9
- PP goal finishes of 1, 2, 5, 7, 7
- 3 finishes in top 16 points (14, 16, 16)
- 13th all-time in PP goals
- 15th all-time in game-winning goals

Nieuwendyk has been described by many as a solid two-way player and many used the term “complete” to describe him as a player. More of an offensive guy obviously, but his defensive game was better than average as well. Hard worker at both ends of the ice, solid leadership, great stick around the net, hard and accurate shot, decent skater, good size, solid passer, aggressive in front of the goal, great hand-eye coordination for deflections, and a noted face-off specialist.
